Very nice! Went with Spalted maple I see! What a cool wood!
Thank you, it's my favorite wood by far. I have a few goose calls in maple burl and spalted maple and the uniqueness to the grain never ceases to amaze me.

Although the desert ironwood on this thread are stunning and I may eventually have one made with that material.

My 2 favorite makers; Mike Jones from Canada on top and Half faced blades on the bottom. Both are exceptional and I long for the day a chance at another of each.

Those half face blades seem pretty popular. I like the look of them! What model is that?

Stuart Smith Hand Forged out of South Africa. I’m on a forged kick these days. Have a Lin Rhea on order and a Wilburn Forge in the Spring.
Where do you find out about these guys? There are so many makers out there it's hard to distinguish good from bad.

There are a ton of forums but I know a few makers and you see who they like. For my taste there are 1000s of guys making stock removal knives that work great and look good but there is something about a guy hammering out a functional knife that means a lot to me. If you have IG, you can see who those guys follow and whose work they comment on to see who is really top notch. Also, I fell head into the hand sharpening hobby this year and it’s been one of the most satisfying and functional interests.

One of the best values in hand forge seems to be Forge and Foundry for readily available knives.

I found a guy on IG the other day after talking with the company I bought wood scales from. He's newer I think and I am trying to get ahold of him but he's MIA. He hooked up with BRCC so I am sure he blew up in popularity lately. Grizzly Forge, if I can't get ahold of him to at least get on a list I will just move on I suppose.

That is the crow scout.
The crow jr. Is also a great choice for a hunting knife.
What kind of shitshow did you guys have to go through to get one of these knives? Sold out and from the remarks on forums his knives sell out in 30 seconds and not taking orders until next summer lol

What site do you shop for those scales? Last year I got into making some knives, really enjoyed it. I gave them all away except the sheep handle one, kept that one. It’s a fun hobby, I need better equipment, a grinder, some sand paper, and a dremel leave a bit to be desired. I sanded the wood all the way to 3000grit, then a light buffing.

The Spalted maple I got on Etsy but isn’t “professionally stabilized” so I may send off to get redone. Not that it should really matter, we’ll see.

The two ironwood pieces I attached were both from Arizona Ironwood. Really cool site and company that sells a lot of wood blocks and scales. They have daily listings and a ton of categories. Super fast shipping and great customer service. Their wood is professionally stabilized so no work needed upon receiving. I had them mail the scales right to Gene Ingram

Lastly I grabbed a piece of stabilized mango from Greenberg Woods. He is a small time guy I found on bladeforums.com. Gets some really cool wood and also professionally stabilized by K&G which is kinda the gold standard for wood stabilizing. Good to work with as well.

This stuff is addicting! I may try to dabble in knifemaking/woodworking. Those knives you made look really nice!
