We home school our kids and Charlie was very generous w his time when our knives were ready we took a field trip and visited his shop. It was a great experience and cool that the boys got to shake the hand that made their blade.

I have one if these and a frontier hunter. Nice knives. Used the nessy to completely bone out a deer. Great skinning and meat removal knife. Great guy.

Wish O1 wasn’t his go to steel tho
This one was 52100 was kinda disappointed but eh he's got a very good price for the product.

Yea 52100 refines so sharp but can’t really hold an edge. O1 a little better. I wonder, so many start with those steels and seem to progress to some better performance as they get better at heat treat… idk.

I plan to touch base with him to see if he’s at least going to use a2 and full convex. Then I’ll get more!

I wonder if it's easier to forge?

52100 forges fine but you need a good heat treat recipe for edge retention. 5160 forges better and holds an edge much better. Many of us use 10xx series steels for forging because they’ll hold a better edge. HT and temper along with edge geometry are the most important factors to knife performance.

This thread RUINED me for factory knives. I reached out to a friend who I knew had a couple of wild edge custom knives by a guy named Tiago DeMatos out of Spain. He cut me a screaming good deal and here we are!
