As the title says. Candid pics of animals you normally hunt, but weren't hunting when you took the picture.

Mine:

Deer in a gully near a residential area, it's hard to see but he had a drop tune in the right side.

I'm not a big "deer guy", but would have loved to have had a tag while chasing elk and running into these guys. 30 yards for the first one and about 20 for the second. The second one came strolling right to me. He would have kept coming, but I needed to pull my camera out of the belt pouch, and he stopped here when he heard or saw me doing that. This was right after working a bull, and when I heard him coming I thought it was the bull sneaking in on me. The pictures reversed for some reason........first should be second.

That's the way it always seems to go, eh -- the big ones come along when you don't have the tag! Very cool photos.

Don't you totally find yourself sorta saying "C'Mon man.. you telling me there absolutely no men around smellin' all that "P"?? C'Mon Universe... just one legal buck... that's all I ask!"

From that same day... approaching last light... I'm watching this spike buck and his brother and sister walk up this little ledge on a finger to get up there where they can enjoy the last bit of warmth from the sun.

The spike buck has this lil nub protruding directly out of the top of his antler... and I kept looking and looking intently at that antler to attempt to discern if he happened to have enough of a side nub to "hang a ring off it" but... sadly... no dice.

This ruffed grouse was eating aspen buds outside our upper deck and ignored me 5 feet away.
Interior Alaska has ruffed grouse, spruce grouse and sharptailed grouse.
My favorite for huntng is sharptails, eating is ruffed.
The season is from Aug 10 to the end of Mach, but I stop once their is deep snow.

It's amazing how good their coloration is to match those trees!

Lil earlier this year... right after purchasing a pair of ZEISS Conquest 10x42 HD's used of a gentleman here on Rokslide... Impatient to wait until I'd be in the mountains again... I take them over to the Bolsa Chica Wetlands Reserve which is not too far from our home.

Told myself I was gonna sit down with the Tripod and force myself to do a slow gridding of this one marsh island in there. You know... just to see what we can see. Assuming I'd amuse myself with tracking some of the smaller shore birds that check deep into the wet sands with the long pointy beaks looking for food. Or the king fishers or Osprey.

It was low tide... so apparently that's what made it easy/possible for the coyotes to cross over into there. I happen to spot them at only like 100yds from my sit!
