Pick a 6.5 Creedmoor Bullet for Elk

The Hornady CX bullet has done well for me on elk out of my 6.5 PRC. As long as you stay above 2000ft/sec it is one of the tougher options out there for elk with a 6.5.

I like Bergers for their accuracy, consistency, internal, external, and terminal ballistics. The 135 Classic Hunter aka Hybrid Hunter has the best form factor of all the Berger 6.5 hunting bullets. And that weight range is probably about optimal for max terminal range from a 6.5CM. My dad shoots that bullet in his 6.5CM with excellent results.
I've used hybrid hunters a lot in the past, and I find I have better consistency with 140 ELDMs. I've recovered several HH's, and the expansion was never consistent. They did the job, but for the price and wound channel, the 140s have been more reliable for me at 2680 FPS. I could load them faster, but they group tight as is. I just make sure to measure the bullets and separate accordingly prior to loading.

I also like the 130 TMk and 130 terminal Ascent, but one of my rifles just doesn't like the federal bullet.

I prefer Barnes for their performance in game. I can usually get them to shoot just as good as any target bullets.

Federal is coming out with a 6.5+peak bullet this summer. Same concept as the 7mm backcountry using peak alloy casing. Gets 200-300 fr/sec more then standard cartridges and 100ish more then PRC apparently. Don’t have buy a new rifle though to use though as they should shoot out of any or majority of the 6.5s out there. I’m sure they will be cheap!
