A guy should always have a couple left hand drill bits laying around.

Also if every other screw came out. You could whack that rail off on each side of the screw. Then whittle your way in.

I had a similar problem a few years ago. I took it to a gunsmith and he turned it upside down, held a cigarette lighter on what was left of the screw head for a few seconds and then used a small left hand drill bit. The rest of the screw came right out. Took him 5 minutes at most.

Don't get carried away drilling too deep. That's a small screw, and if you don't leave some sticking out of the action, it'll be way harder to remove.

It may be too late now, but my go to method for removing stripped screw heads is to cut a slot for a flat head screwdriver with either a dremel or a chisel. Since the rail is getting trashed, you could try that now before you drill any more. Just allow the slot to extend into the rail as necessary.

Edit: I didn't realize this thread was a few days old. Hopefully you've got it figured out already.

I was going to suggest the same thing, I had to do this recently with an AR handguard thst someone (meaning me ) got a little over zealous tightening the hex head screws that mate the hand guard to the receiver. I ended up using a small dremel grinding wheel, cut a slot across the head of the screw, and Viola! I was able to simply unscrew it with a flathead screwdriver.

I saw a gunsmith do the exact thing to a customer's rifle. I was, to say the least, very impressed with how well it worked and how fast he accomplished the task.
