Bosque is a cool place! I was a assistant manager there from 2016-2019
It's been many, many years since I visited there. I imagine it's changed somewhat over the years. In the early '80s, I was a travelling sales rep selling photo gear, & NM was part of my territory. So every time I passed by the Bosque, I would stop by for a few hours of picture taking. I have hundreds of unscanned slides from there.

Another Bosque denizen...

Learned a lot from the rodeo session this weekend-
  • Need to switch vantage points to eliminate as much background noise (people) as possible since I end up having to heavily crop to avoid weird faces
  • Potentially get closer so I can maximize aperture to blur out the background better.
  • Best light was from the opposite side but the kids kept falling off to this side.

    Tips and critques always welcome

Your second statement makes no sense to me. Distance and long lenses combined with wider apertures will isolate your subject more. Getting closer and using shorter focal length lenses will make that harder.
