A great illustration of heart wood vs regular. It's a single down tree that animals have used to cross the marsh. The sap wood on each side is worn down to ground level where the moisture keeps it from rotting further. The center heartwood is about 3" in diameter and still round.

Was the heart all fatwood down towards the trunk? I guess not unless it was a conifer

I used it to cross the salt marsh. I'd love to dig into it, but we practice zero footprint on this property. It's most likely Eastern red cedar.

A couple pictures from today’s hike. An absolute beautiful spring day with temps in the upper 20’s. We’re finally starting to have low’s above 0° and I for one, am absolutely loving it! It’s been a looong cold winter.

I randomly grabbed that photo out of my Flickr - it was from a long time ago and I can't remember if that was male or female...and I can't remember if that was a captured prairie falcon or one he purchased. Pretty sure it was a straight falcon. He has gyr/falcon cross now. Kinda fun to go watch and try and grab some photos.

Another buddy of mine used to hawk with a red tail which was kinda fun to watch as well, different technique from falcons - he's got gyr/falcon hybrid now also.


They run GPS systems now...they may still run tele backups like I do on my birddogs as a failsafe. Anyway, they get some cool flight downloads from the GPS data.
