I bought my Canon 500mm 4.0 lens way back in 2008 after a trip to New Zealand. On that trip I wished I had a better lens than my older Canon 100-400mm IS lens. After using my 500mm that fall I was very glad that I spent the money to get that lens. It is about 60% higher in cost today but a lot better lens that what I have. I am toying with buying a new 500mm lens now. 14 yrs later I am still very pleased with my old lens but think the new one would fit my newer model Canon 90D much better.
