I suspected it was something like that. Saving up to a similar lens with internal focus myself. After seeing how rough Morten Hilmer is with his lenses during winter photography/filming, I figured it would be an investment that lasts. Thanks for confirming! Thanks. I shoot mainly with a Canon 500mm 4.0 IS lens that is now 14 yrs old.
I have watched his videos also. I made the investment in this lens after going to New Zealand in spring of 2008. The cost was a tough pill to swallow at the time but it was well worth the money back then. Only thing is back then it was just over $5200 shipped and today it is almost twice that price. I have not used one or been around anyone that has the newer one but I think it will take considerably better photos than the older version I have. My lens was used on a Canon 10D and then a Canon 50D till I got a Canon 7D in 2010. It works on the older model cams better than the newer ones. I know have a Canon 90D. Last summer I purchased a Sigma 150-600mm DG HS HSM Sports lens to carry instead of the 100-400mm(19 yrs old) and the 500mm. It is a good lens with good light but not the as good as my older 500mm. One day I am going to have to buy me a knew Canon 500mm 4.0. My older lens has taken a ton of photos and has to be getting worn out.I suspected it was something like that. Enough OT. Today's photo shows how I use trees/skis/backpack to "float" the snow for shooting. I ski all the way into the shooting position:
