Tripod or monopod at larger zoom settings.

We have been doing that. She took a lot of bird pics yesterday. Much faster speeds and higher F stop settings did the trick. She was worried about the ISO settings getting too high but speed and aperture appear to trump ISO all day long with wildlife photos. At least appears that way so far.

The fog in the background is awesome, seems to add to the DOF. The yellow of the grass and cactus against the nearly BW background is fantastic.
