Special vs. Regular

I spend thousands on gear, gas, and my time. I don't mind spending extra on tags. I have drawn 4 "special" Wyoming antelope tags, and have never regretted it for one second. Next year isn't guaranteed.
This is the way but I wouldn't advertise it to the world too much or you will create more competition. In general the American public struggles to budget for anything though so it should always provide you at least some advantage.

Some high rollers in here, I’m not paying the $1200 for 35# of meat… maybe if it was still easy to get a couple doe tags. You can definitely pull some “better” tags in the special though with your 5 points

All relative. Only the applicant can decide. I’ve hunted antelope for 30 years or so and generally only paid resident prices. Many years I had two any antelope tags. I would hang it up before I paid as much as a nonres special price. I’d probably not pay the regular price.

However, I am not surprised many people do. It’s just the price of admission these days.

Im going to enter the special draw this year

When I was looking up some of the units on go hunt, it appeared like I would be able to draw some of the places I was really looking at with 5 in the special. However, they have their new thing on there that allows you to take a look and see what they think is going to be the draw odds for 2026 and it showed them really bad even though the permits did not get decreased in that area. Does anybody have a good idea of how to try and track point creep for Wyoming PH and have an educated guess prior to application?

No there are thousands opon thousands of point only buyers that have been sitting on the sidelines that could opt in any year.

So if there is any talk about anything being good that could push them to apply at any time.

There could literally be 10,000 new applicants with more points that you apply for a single unit.

Best u can do is track past trends and make an half educated guess.

The special app is honestly not a good deal anymore. As stated above, there are tens of thousands of guys with points sitting on the sidelines, many of whom will be cashing those in over the next few years. Lotta guys gonna get hosed with point creep no matter how much they're willing to spend.

Another way to look at it is that for a third (ish) of the cost, you could pay a trespass fee somewhere and have a really great hunt on private with a tiny fraction of the pressure.

Special tags are like $1200 now.

Where can I get a solid trespass fee hunt for a third of that?

For that matter.....I'd pretty happily pay a lot more than 1/3 of that, for a solid trespass fee hunt.

(Serious question and please IM me if you know of such a place....)
