Looking for a new year round base layer, going with kuiu because from what I’ve found they are the only ones that make zip off bottoms and I would like a solid color so it is either the peloton 118 or Ultra Merino 145. What do you guys think would be a better choice for year round with weather temps ranging from triple digits down into the teens. Thanks in advance!

I cannot speak to the bottoms but I have both tops and I prefer the 145. To me, it is much better in the heat and works well if you layer right as the temperature drops. I'm not a stinky individual (at least I can't smell myself!) so I can't really test out the odor blocking ability of the merino but I do enjoy how fast it dries. I also like how it breathes when it is warm out or when you're exerting a lot of energy. I think the peloton has it's place too, however. I just haven't really used it as much as the merino. Hope this helps!

Definitely! Thanks for the info I was going to get a matching top with the bottoms also just wish they still made the 145 in a crew top instead of the 1/4 zip

Hey no problem! Mine is the quarter zip and I enjoy it but a crew would be nice too. I think they have a hooded 145 now as well...I might have to spend some money!

Peloton 200 is my choice but since it’s discontinued maybe the ‘97? I can only make an educated guess based on my 97 shirt as to how a bottom would compare to the 200, a tad cooler but breathe a bit more?

Sorry another guess but the 118 is still new but I recall it being a replacement for the 130. The 130 for me was just a wicking layer that didn’t provide much warmth.

In case anyone else is wondering, I sent an email to Kuiu asking if there were other base layer weights in the plans for this year, and they said no plans for anything else..

I have both and I find the Merino zip off bottoms to be more comfortable than the Pelotons.

Do you think the 145 top will be to hot in summer when it’s 90+ degrees?

The 97 is much much warmer then the 118/130. With the 118/130 I'm comfortable in the 80's. With the 97 I'm comfortable in the 34/40's.

For 60+ probably the 118 instead of the 97. The 97 is misleading, its a crazy light fabric but has brushed fleece which I would not want in the heat.

I thought merino was supposed to be the bees knees? I haven’t had any to experience yet but that’s just from what I’ve read.

I don't know man the synthetics from kuiu are pretty good. I have the merino 125 and 145 or whatever but i seem to always grab the 118.

It is for its properties of warm when wet and odor resistance. It’s fragile and I don’t like to feel damp. Modern synthetic has come a long way and is my preference.

Hours of research from all these companies down the drain. Talking to guys with actual experience looks like Peleton it is. Thanks for the help!
