Hey gang, anyone live around the Pecos Wilderness in NM? Looking at a short backpacking trip with the wife around April 20. Trying to determine if we are looking at snow conditions or not. Not familiar with central NM weather this time of year.

We are not really set up for winter camping. We did some hiking in Estes a couple weeks ago and the snow there was nuts.

Our go to is Buffalo River in NW Arkansas for short trips. Came across the Pecos and thought it looked cool.

There was a lot of snow up there this year. As for the weather who knows? It has been warm this week but in the high country the weather is just all over the place this time of year. It will be windy, you could get snow, and it could be spectacular warm and sunny. Sometimes all of the above before lunch.

There will still be some snow up there in some places. You will be able to find dry ground to pitch a tent, but the night temps at 10,000' will still be around freezing.
