PEAX Solitude 4 Tipi Review ***Updated 8/1/23***

Peax said they are releasing one this year….I would wait as the one I got was difficult to set up. Where I moose hunted in Sept, not a bunch of bugs and the few mosquitos that got in died off when I lit the stove.
How did the bugnet fit and can u provide the mfgr you bought it from? Thx!

Any taller users using this shelter?
I’ve got one I used in Utah last fall. I’m 6’3” and it worked but was just a touch shorter than I’d have liked. With 2 people and a stove I had to be far enough to the side that my feet and head are into a pretty short part of the tipi.

With one person or no stove I can be closer to the middle and no issues.

Has anyone had any issues with sagging when the nylon material gets wet? I know Dyneema doesn't sag at all, but every nylon tent I've ever had does. Just wondering if it's an issue with the Solitude tipi.

Wondering about this myself, looks like the silnylon has 2000mm storm shield coating. Does this keep the silnylon from getting saturated with water? How long does it last?

It will sag when wet but it’s not terrible. It doesn’t take a lot to re-tension the shelter when it happens.
Dyneema has zero sag, followed by sil-poly with minimal and then a quality sil-nylon with a little more. The Peax shelter is great sil-nylon.

Thanks Josh, appreciate the feedback. I have a Hyperlite Mountain Gear Ultamid 2 in Dyneema. It's been great on many a trip. It is a bit more of a hassle to pack up given Dyneema's structure. The Ultamid does not have a stove jack, so I'm looking around at options. I've heard the Argali tipi hot tents are also good, but I like some of the design features on the Peax tipi.

Fair warning, I don't have any experience with that specific coating. Having said that, I have found that coatings are good for short, light rain events, but that any sustained rain or even a lot of humidity can lead to sagging. However, the storm shield coating might have some secret sauce.

One nice thing I've experienced with my Dyneema tipi, and a couple Sil-Poly tents, is that the intrinsic nature of the fiber makes it easier to wipe off water or condensation with less moisture absorption. So, the material is easier to dry off and doesn't absorb as much water weight into the fiber.

Every type of fiber has its pros and cons. 🤷‍♂️
