New here so maybe this topic has been covered before.

Getting ready for upcoming season I pulled my father’s old schrade 498 hunting knife out of a drawer. He hunted all over the lower 48 and he field dressed many animals with it. It’ll be in my pack the season. For some reason the knife hits home more than the guns and other things he left me when he passed 5 years ago. Just seems like a more personal thing he carried, if that makes sense.
Anyone else still using items passed down from fathers and grandfathers?

I have a Remington 722 in .243 Win. that was my father's, still in pristine condition. I only really rifle hunt for Javelina these days as I hunt other big game with a muzzleloader but it still shoots great and the stock is still beautiful.

I have 2 rifles handed down from my grandfather. One has taken a couple deer and the other really needs to.

I have a pistol that was passed between my father and grandfather, neither could shoot it worth a trap, but I managed to figure it out and took a deer last year with it.

Couple knifes that I might ought to start carrying just for the sentimental value.

My grandfather's old winchester model 1912. That trusty 12 gauge has taken a lot of deer over the years, and I'm lucky enough to keep the tradition going. I took my first buck with it and it will never leave the family as long as I'm around!

That's a great old knife, and if it could only talk about everywhere its been and what it's seen. Very cool heirloom quality knife, and I'm glad you have something like this from your Dad. My brothers and I have our late father's shotguns, rifles, and knives, and they will always be special.

EDIT: I forgot to mention I regularly use Dad's old Marlin 56 lever action .22 for rabbits, squirrels, ground squirrels, and plinking. Beautiful wood stock, 7 round clip, and old Burris scope. She's a tack driver out to 100 yards, and the action is still smooth as butter and the walnut stock is beautiful.
