Hold on…people were actually taking this serious?
I mean there were two known examples of people doing it already in AK just listed in this thread. I sure as hell am not going to be doing it or looking into it, but I can think of a couple drainages where you could get into some pretty sweet stuff you can't land a plane in and could float out; saving your legs both ways.

Unfortunately, on this site people can no longer assume someone being blatantly outrageous is joking. Go look at the black cat thread or the tantrums people are throwing in the limited NR tag threads for CO and WY and no level of nonsense seems to be off the table for this audience.

I’ve read most of the LBC thread. I haven’t read any in a couple days but last I checked there were no “Big Black Cat” references…which I was waiting for and was the only thing that kept me reading. I could drone on-and-on about technical specs of non-steerable canopies and drop zone selection but I wasn’t taking any of this serious. It’s honestly a terrible idea…read my comment about rough terrain jumps. I was far from taking anything mentioned seriously though. You’re right, people will argue about anything, especially on this site.

If for some crazy reason someone actually does this more power to them, especially if chasing a bundle. My personal experience chasing bundles on static jumps is that it sucks. If the bundle goes into the trees, you are landing in the trees with it.

All of the following is just good natured "what if" stuff for a thought exercise:

IMHO - Sounds like a nightmare kinda.

A rig that will hold you and your gear isn't going to be lightweight - and all parachute rigs are pretty damn expensive. It's something you will either carry or cache in order to grab for exfil. Either way, you will be transporting it, whatever you harvest, and your personal gear at some point.

The whole thing is likely only worth the trouble if you can HAHO way out into the middle of nowhere, which presents a whole slew of issues if you don't have some sort of support ready to assist in the event a contingency plan needs to be utilized (such as a parachute malfunction causing a jumper to land short of a DZ and getting injured due to terrain, etc)

The planning for a HAHO is a bit of a monster, as multiple DZ's no one has seen other than on imagery will probably be set up, but knowing exactly what they are like before your feet hit the ground will be almost impossible depending on where they are.

Exfil/Extract would be interesting too - I suppose you could set up an HLZ after landing and have rotory wing come get you. The difficult part would be ensuring everyone involved is on the same sheet of music and no one deviates in the event comm is unavailable.

Injury on landing would personally be my biggest concern.

I can't even imagine what the overall cost would be. Start saving those pennies and nickels haha

I think this could work, but you would need to burn or bury the chute and gear. Treat it as expendable and dump it on landing, but not litter.

From there, you would likely need to prepare to be out for a long time and get resupplied via air as you walk out.

The big issue for me would be dealing with the trophy and meat…it’s a long time to anywhere.

Just jump an MC1-1C in and use a Fulton Recovery system to yank you, your gear, and your BOAL out. That way you and your BOAL can sit side by side as a C-130 reels you in and flies you off into the Rokslide Hall of Fame.

If you can't walk in there, it seems like a dumb idea to parachute in there and expect to kill an animal and then pack the animal and the chute out.

It would be a great way to get clicks and likes and whatnot if that is your angle.
