Pant recommendations

I’ve never owned an actual good pair of hunting pants. I prefer a mobile hunting approach and I usually on ridges and hilly terrain. My pants bunch and make me real tired. I’m hoping for some recommendations in finding a mid season pant intended for climbing hills and longer treks. Thanks everyone

Of those I usually wear the tora when it's truly mid season and likely to be on the cooler end. I wear my ascent when it's hot out and but not hot enough for tiburons.

Go to Costco and buy the Gerry, Weatherproof, Union Bay or Eddie Bauer pants. They are all great options, similar to the Prana Stretch Zions and can be had for $15 - 20. I probably own 8 or 10 pair.

If you don’t care about camo and want a budget option, Wrangler outdoor pants. Can also get them insulated.

I love my Sitka Mountain pants. Where them from archery through late season here in Colorado. Can be a bit warm in early season.

I'd say start with the Prana Zions. It was my first go pant and I'm still using them.

They have dwr but they don't shed water. So my next pant was a sitka timberline. Great pant but it doesn't handle the wet very well either.

Bought kuiu talus hybrid. Handles the cool, wet weather very well.


In short. With Prana's and some base layer you're good to go into the mid season when dry.

Timberline is perfect mid season when dry but too hot early season.

Talus hybrid is mid to late season with hip vents.

I have first lites foundry corrugates and love them. I also have Sitka timberlines and they’re great too. For early season I wear prana zions.

Prana Zions when on sale are the best value out there. They are high quality, triple stitched seams, articulated crotch and knees, and you can wear them around town or work. I have pairs that are 6-7 years old and have been washed hundreds of times and still look like new. You can pay double for Sitka, First Lite or Kuiu but you are not getting a product twice as good.
I tried cheap pants that everyone on here rave about and the pairs I have are either trashed or I don’t wear them because they fit weird.

Agree 100% with this. I'm wearing a pair today.... Can't beat them for the price, even at full price. I actually get them at REI and get 10% back at the end of the year, so it basically covers sales tax.

You can try on Sitka at local stores. Same with the crappy fitting Costco pants that fall apart after hard use on granite and rock.

FL and Kuiu are a gamble since you can’t actually try them on without buying.

Kuiu Kutana are like Prana’s with better pockets and hip vents.

The Corrugate foundry are the best all-around in my opinion.

And the best cold weather I’ve worn is the Talus pants. I like the old school Sitka Cold Front pant, too.

Thanks for all of your recommendations. It’s been a big help. It looks like there’s a few sales out there so I’ll choose something soon

Either Prana Zions or Eddie Bauer guide pants. If you are patient you can get either for 50% off. The zions have more stretch and for me are a little more comfortable. The guides are more snag resistant and have better pockets. I haven’t timed it, but I feel like the guides dry faster. I wear them both all the time for any outdoor activity in any season and just layer accordingly to the weather.

For early to mid season this has been the pant I’ve used the last four seasons. Fit is perfect for me, love the deep pockets and two roomy cargo pockets. I just change what’s under them based on temp- merino boxers if it’s warm, Kuiu Peloton zip off bottoms if it’s cool to cold (if it warms up they zip off in 30 seconds or less )

For kuiu, i wore out my attacks in 3 years, tearing the ankles up good. Still use them later in the season - they run hot for me. Have superior stretch and comfort though. Wore them all seasons before I bought kutanas.

Kutana’s are tough - but met their match in manzanita. Even then just tore the stitching out in the hip vents, and kuiu warrantied them in full. They run real cool. Late season they are cold and require good layering. They also dry fast as can be, 5x faster than attacks. By far my favorite now for all around pants despite being less stretchy. Took a year to break in but worth it.

If they don’t have hip zips they are not great pants. I have been using Kuiu Attack pants for a long time now.

I have went through several different pants. All those listed above. I have now dwindled down to two pairs for everything. I use the corrugate foundry and the catalyst foundry. Those two pants cover everything. I have wore the corrugate foundry from sept archery spot and stalk whitetail and saddle hunts and scouting. I wear catalyst foundry when it’s going to be below freezing to below 50. They are absolutely hard to beat mid to late season pants.
