Painless load development (mine)

Wish I'd found this method earlier. Burned up a lot of components adjusting charges by .1s of a grain and incremental seating depth changes. On my 2nd rifle now. Much easier.

Tried this out with my 338 RUM and the 250 Norma GTX the other day. Checked for pressure since it wasn't a published combo and loaded where I thought I was safe. 5 shots at 100 yards and adjusted the scope. Moved to the 300 yard steel (furthest my local range has) and was stacking shots on top of each other.

I'll verify with 10 shots at further distance, but I think this combo is going to work. For reference, that's a 1" square on the target.

It's funny how traditional ideology would have you trying to excuse that 1 as a "flyer", or "pulled", etc. I look at that group now and think as long as you keep breaking shots clean like that, that's probably just gonna fill in and be a damn fine load. Especially out of a 338 RUM! Lol.

So true. I still call them “flyers” but don’t excuse them as such anymore. It’s just the group and how that gun shoots with that particular combo.

F***in fliers! 9 shots into like .4" and one just had to shit the bed. I honestly think that may have been a bedding thing, as this was from a Tikka action in an unbedded and undertorqued factory stock and being shot bare muzzle. But yeah, still part of the group!

Lol. I've been reloading since about 1988. My method is similar to Forms. Anymore I want to spend as little time at the range as possible.

Thanks! I agree, in the past I probably would be trying to explain that away. It just is what it is. I’m excited to stretch this out on steel next week to see how it does.

MRC 6cm, 93gr McGuire Copper Rose. Same load as the 95gr TMK- 43.5gr H4350. Seated boattail to the neck/shoulder junction.





10x, 100 yards rapid fire-

Here’s another one. New 22 creedmoor barrel. I did have to switch powders. It did not like RL26…1.7” or so not quite what I wanted.

Made a powder swap, work up to pressure, back down a grain, and two confirmation groups.




Just before that barrel I got a new 6cm going. It did not really like the first bullet I tried (106 tap). Tried two powders with mediocre results.

Swapped to 109eld, worked up to pressure with RL16, backed off, and done.

Sometimes you need to try a few combos of powders and or bullets..other than that no tinkering needed.

I don’t think I’ve posted a 10 shot group from my GT, same load I posted the 5 shot group at 600 yards a few pages back. Once I switched to the 80 eld, I dropped a max charge and seated bullet to 2.50” oal and shot. This was not the first 10 shot group with the rifle but the only one I can find at the moment. Over 900 rounds in it is still shooting good, recently had it cut to 16.5” to see what velocities were like there. Thinking next barrel will be 18”
