Pain meds?

Had two morphine auto injector doses after I snapped my fibula on a night mission in Iraq. They worked. Doubt you will be able to conjur those up. Maybe some 800 motrins is your next best bet….

A change of socks, a full Camelbak, and a couple of Motrin 800s is all the medicine a man needs.

After I broke my leg, I walked on it for eight days thinking it was “just a sprain.” I had always been told, “if you can walk on it, it’s not broken.” That’s not true. I was dumb. Don’t be like me. If it hurts, go see a doctor. And alternating doses of Ibuprofen and Tylenol every four hours is good to deal with pain.

Yeah I was culling does on the ranch and head shot one with a small caliber
When I went to drag her to the truck , she kicked me in the shin, I walk around limping for weeks, before finally seeing the doctor.

Was he a red head?
Actually been in the U.S. for 3 months from the Ukraine.
Sort of sketchy actually. I got some sort of organized crime vibe off him.
Super nice, respectful and spoke English well.
And he had his super hot ass "accountant" with him
I kinda want a Ukrainian girl now. :p

Interesting. Genetic super metabolizers do exist. It is all speculation, but if a normalish amount put him down, it sounds less like tolerance and more like he just clears things fast. Of course, a lot of super metabolizers need doses that would kill a horse to go down too.

Then there are the genetic light weights, had a 240 pound tall guy go apneic on me after about 25 mcg of fentanyl pushed over a minute once. He didn't get the rest of the dose.

OP, are you talking about something that you're actually dealing with, or are we talking about something hypothetical in the field here?

Hypothetical in field injury. Looking for pain reducers to get out while not thinning the blood too much in case you are also bleeding

Aleve for most things, possibly adding an asprin or a tylenol if there's a lot going on (ie, road-rash or burn on top of a sprang, break, etc). But for severe stuff, like a tooth, back, or joint trying to debilitate you, that's the kind of thing you want to have a leftover opioid around for, if it means you getting back to your truck or not. Next trip to the dentist, make sure you don't finish off the pain RX. Nothing I'm aware of is a replacement for that in dealing with legitimately debilitating pain.

For many people both opioids and ibprofen are potentiated by cannabis.

200 mg of ibuprofen with a small edible high in CBD beats 5 mg of hyrocodone IME. Cuts the NSAID load way down, no constipation, and no opiate brain haze.

400mg Ibuprofen, 500mg Tylenol; As efficacious as opioids, better than taking each individually. Recommended to not take maximum doses of these OTC pain medications as you get peak affect with a lower dose and it exposes you to more side effects.

I wouldn't really be concerned about the anticoagulative properties of a max/submaximal dose of NSAIDs in that setting. Toradol is routinely given to pre surgical patients in the OR for post operative pain, only avoided when there is an increased risk for post op bleed or underlying coagulopathy.

Don't have my literature on me but these papers are representative of overall research on the subject:

I've heard that, never tried it myself because I'm allergic to CBD but have told mates about this

Am I understanding you correctly that the blood thinning effect is not something to be overly concerned with?

The scenario I’m thinking is a break or bad sprain and need to get out. Potential risk for bleeding and needing to control it. I have an in reach but walking out yourself may be faster

I get the giggles so bad with that stuff that I wouldn’t have to worry about succumbing to the injury. Anyone around would choke me to death.

Nothing OTC will ever make it quit hurting enough for you to get around or hike with out assistance

Broke my ankle after I got back up and tried putting weight on it, I fainted
I broke both ankles in a stupid fall a year ago August. I had no choice but to hike out the two miles to the trailhead. I had convinced myself they were just badly sprained.

This study compared Ketorolac (extremely high strength ibuprofen/aleve) and found no evidence it causes increased bleeding compared to a control, and that's in a surgical setting. In the back country, the pain from a broken bone/deep cut would prevent you from thinking rationally/limit your mobility and should be addressed.

If you've taken ibuprofen in the past and tolerate it, you'll be fine. The bleeding risk is overblown.

That's extremely good to know, especially as it's a lot more accessible...
