While my ball joints stare at me going, really?

I’d change them while had it apart. Take the rotors and see if they need turning so you don’t take a chance of tearing up the new pads. I’d also check for play in the ball joints too while I’m at it.

So, these rotors never have enough meat left on them to turn and not be under minimum. Hardly past minimum new.


I knew I needed ball joints. Ended up doing those while I had it apart. Really wasn't too bad for a truck sitting on a car chassis. Right at 150k, first its had ball joints. These are serviceable, maybe last a little longer.

I'm sure not ment to be hunched over working on vehicles anymore, miss having a lift.

I hate doing this stuff, but its usually a few weeks to get stuff repaired around here. Closest guy who's really good is staying booked 45-60 days out.

Sounds like you’ve gotten it taken care of. It’s the same in my area. Good shops have long waits. At work we have to go to the dealership and “repossess” our trucks sometimes that have been sitting there for 6 plus months waiting to be fixed and take them somewhere else.

I remember first time I experienced it, riding with a buddy and went over some railroad tracks.

Took a 1/2 mile to settle out.

My 21 ranger is still on original brakes. Last oil change at the dealer I asked them to check the brakes.
$500.00 roughly for rear brakes. I thought fronts usually went out first. This truck is all disc. I'm not experiencing any braking issues.

Girl, I work with, her husband has a garage in town. He told me no more than $300.00 with parts.

I live in an apt. so any mechanic work is a royal PITA working in a parking lot.

Have anyone you despise? They could drive the truck until the brakes go out. New truck, one less headache to deal with...

Id just replace everything and be done.

Might as-well due the entire front end, wheel bearings, ball joints, etc...

Just hope its not a Ford, because their parts are made of damn gold.

I started on it because I lost driverside WB.

Praise whatever Deity you believe in that you don't live in the rust belt. Every brake job I've done in the last few years started out as pads and rotors and turned into calipers and if its been in MN long enough a grocery list of other stuff. Had to replace a 4-5 year old set of calipers because the Chinesium bleeder screws rotted off.
Did brake lines on my work truck (01 silverado) last year and it turned into literally everything. The only thing that didn't end up getting replaced was the master cylinder/booster and ABS pump/module, and now the boosters acting up.

I have put 2 calipers on this truck so far.


I'm in a section of the rest belt, but I figure not replacing the front main helps to spread a little anti rust coating around.

I am a long ways from the rust belt. The few rigs I have had come into the shop that were from that area have been an eye opening experience. No money was made on those jobs

Mines got 140k on it and never had any work to it done other than deleting, adding efi live, and trans tunes and pads are probably close to what yours looked like. I’m about to have to change everything out as well
