Pads and rotors

Replace pads and rotors?

  • Yes, don't be cheap and buy another 9 months out of it, replace them while you are doing it.

  • Naw, freaking send it. The cost is stupid and can buy you a bunch of hunting gear

Both is what I voted for.

Being more serious, I don't cut corners on breaks or tires and prefer early replacement as I don't find the savings of trying to get everything out of things worth the effort needed to keep track of it.

If I ran a commercial fleet, it would be a different story.

I voted replaced them, but that’s a lot meat left on the bone. Not a big tear down job if you need to throw new pads on when it hits the squeal strips. Ball joints are a whole other level.

Good timing for this post as I just did the brakes and rotors on my truck last night. I say do both pads and rotors because it's only two extra bolts to get the rotors off. Extra cost but not much extra labor. Mine were pulsating on steep declines and fast braking so I knew it was probably time for new rotors.

I’m getting ready to do pads and rotors all the way around on my tundra tomorrow. And an oil change. Not looking forward to it…

I have found insurance deductibles to be cheaper than actually replacing the brakes. I just wait until I don’t stop, run into something. Cost less than the brakes and you get a new pickup. Win win in my book.

Waiting on the ATF but I get to do ATF, oil and rear diff on the Tacoma here soon. Seriously contemplating paying someone.

It's a lot nicer tho when your driving only requires one hand.
Amateur. I shift and steer with one hand all the time. The other one usually has a Big Mac in it or something. On the other hand.......Big Mac's these days are like two bites so no real downtime with that hand.

I wish my Tundra was a manual. I still find myself trying to clutch all the time in it. Probably why my rotors are warped and need replacing. Every time my wife rides with me she says "are you ever going to replace these rotors". I reply "they feel fine to me". It's like having built in cooling vents for the pads.

Yep, 100% do the pads now while it's apart and don't worry about it again for quite a while.
Do the rotors if they pulse, show visible damage, or measure out close to the min thickness spec.

It's basically hunting season, do the work now and free yourself up for the rest of the season!
