Just a tip,, try to find both packs you are considering used. In my experience the used market is very telling in what people really think, the amount for sale and how long they tale to sell and what price they go for.

I actually have the Kuiu in hand and have fit it to myself but I'm concerned about the load capacity. I need a pack capable of whatever I throw at it. In the past I've doubled trips to go back for pack frames and that just doesn't work anymore. I think I'll give kifaru a call tomorrow.

I did look at the kuiu site but to be honest there were quite a few of the same comments I've seen here.

No matter what, whenever I kill an animal if I'm solo im making more then one trip unless it's small deer. I'm not putting 300 pounds in a pack, so no matter what I'm taking multiple trips.

How long do you have to return the Icon? If you can, maybe you should come on the winter hiking trip we have planned the last weekend of January. There should be several Kifaru packs on the trip that you could compare to. Having both packs side by side should help you decide.

Kifaru mate, I could never be accused of being a fanboy, but I will say this, the Kuiu doesn't compare. I really wanted to like the one I had, last years model, but it went back.

Curious; Kifaru is much better than KUIU, but you have never tried the KUIU. Obviously Kifaru is your premier pack, but you have "upgraded" or reconsidered 14x's. I don't know which is a better pack since I have not used either I "shouldn't". I don't doubt the Kifaru, but since I can't compare it to the pack I use, it seems better to listen to folks that have experienced both and then make a decision. azzhole out....

Didnt notice where I said I never "tried a KUIU"? I never owned one. I have TRIED KUIU and just didnt trust the frame. Nor did it fit and feel like my Kifaru packs. I also just have a bad habit of buying the newest and latest and greatest so that is the reason for so many packs. Along with many different sizes and styles.

7 Mag I appreciate the offer and have been following the thread where you guys have been talking about that trip but I'm pretty slammed for work that time of the year and wouldn't be able to get away.

Like it's been said in other threads, they are probably both nice packs and I'm spoiled to be able to choose between the two. Doesn't make the decision any easier.

You might also want to look at Stone Glacier packs. Many on here like them also. Just another option to make your decision even harder.
