Just got a timberline a mounth or so ago. Seen some pics of Aron packing meat between the frame and bag, just wondering how you guys are doing that. Do you unhook the top of the bag from frame, and then put the meat in? Some pics would be cool showing how it's done. Thanks

The DT1 isn't designed to pack meat between the frame and bag, but I guess you could rig something up to make it work. The DT1 is a big bag, I always put the meat on the inside of my pack bag when using this bag.

Kifaru used to offer a Expanded Meat Shelf Kit that had a little meat shelf to run between the bag and frame mid way up, and a couple extra compression straps. You take the top of the bag loose and use compression straps to sandwich meat between the frame and bag.

I found it easier to just put meat in the main bag. With a DT1 you should have plenty of room for it.

I use the DT1 and bikini frame. I use a Kifaru meat bag since I always bone out my meat. The meat bag is long and narrow and holds between 70-80 lbs if you pack it full and tight. I then put a 6mil plastic bag in the pack then slide the beat mag in. The Kifaru meat bag is tall and narrow and packs in the DT1 very nicely once cinched down. I will see if i can find a pick.

I stick the meat in Kifaru meat bags or TAG bags. I also usually line the pack with a garbage bag, but sometimes forget.
This pic shows the standard T1 with two of the BOMB bags full of elk meat.

I agree. Meat is better off carried in the bag and as close as possible to your back/frame. There is no better way in my opinion. I don't even use a garbage bag. Blood dries quickly and eventually the bag will get washed when the season/hunt is over. (For game bags and boned out meat, I like my Carnivore kit from Caribou Game Bags. My TAGs are great for quarters.)

Just curious why people use a meat bag and a plastic bag. Why not seam seal the meat bag to make it waterproof and ditch the plastic bag?

I like throwing the bloody garbage bag in the trash vs scrubbing and soaking a nice meat bag or pack. The meat bag is just for load control.

Thanks guys going to order a meat shelf this week. Just want it to pack meat on day trips, or for helping buddy's pack out game
