I already have the 2020 Pintler Bag only from Mystery Ranch and I want to get a bigger pack more for 5-7 day hunts. Would the Selway/Metcalf/Beartooth be better? I think the Marshall is too big. Already have the Pintler which is a great day pack now looking for one to compliment it. What do you think?

I have the Beartooth. I sold my Pintler because the Beartooth compresses down enough to use as a daypack after camp is set up and your running light but big enough for 5+days with ease. For scouting/shed hunting/etc I run the new Mule that will attach to the guide light MT frame. I like the increased organization that the Beartooth has over pretty much every other MR pack. Lots of pockets and extras vs the “big open bag” concept of all the other MR packs I have had.

I would say the selway is a little small for a week.

I owned a Metcalf and upgraded to the beartooth last year. Setting aside the frame, the packs are roughly the same capacity if you allow that the snow collar on the 70L Metcalf can be overstuffed to roughly the same capacity as the 80L beartooth. Because the beartooth is a panel loader there really isn’t an overstuff option. Of course you could use the meat shelf on either if you needed to expand capacity, but I digress. Give the closeness in capacity, it really comes down to panel loader vs top loader IMO. The only other key difference is the beartooth having more to offer in pockets and organization, where the Metcalf has really none.

If you go Metcalf, you will either need a newer version with the updated buckles to fit your MT frame or get the conversion kit.

I have the Marshall along with the pintler, and it is big. Like, really big. But I have 2 kids and I don't want them carrying much weight so I need the extra capacity...

Basically, I'm agreeing that the Marshall is too big, unless you share my circumstances, then its awesome...

You can get 5-7 days out of your pintler easily if you use the load shelf. I did 9 days solo out of mine last year.

Pintler is 41L:
Do you want double the capacity? Go with the Beartooth.
Do you want 50% more? Go Selway.
Don't like the pockets/organization of the above 2 packs? Go Metcalf.

What is the main difference between Pintler and Mule?
The mule is pretty small. I don't know the actual capacity but it's a lot smaller than a Pintler. Good for carrying some accessories, a spare compact layer of clothes, or the like. I ordered one to put on my frame for essentials once I get where I'm going. My main pack is the Beartooth.
