I'll be going on a guided rifle elk hunt in MT in late October. What size pack would be appropriate? We'll be riding horses to the camp. If we are successful, the meat will be packed out by mules.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

I went on a hunt like this last year. Settled on a Scapegoat 35 and it fit the bill perfectly. Didn't take a frame pack and had plenty of room for extra clothes for long sits and glassing, lunch and such. We rode horses, but still walked abut 3/4 mile to where we hunted from.......this pack or a 14'r were on my short list and cost made the decision for me. Good luck! You will have a blast.

I use a Kuiu 3000 Ultra for the same exact type of hunting, very light, great for food, extra clothes, gear and to pack animals to where horses can do the rest.
