Welcome to the learning curve, it's amazing how a PROPERLY FITTED high end pack feels. When I first got my Kifaru DT1 I was underwhelmed. Then Aron talked me thru the fitting process and once I got it dialed in, it added pounds and miles to my effective range. Sounds like the belt and load lifters might need adjustment. Delta too (if it has em).

If you tell us what pack you have we might be able to give more definitive answer. We've pretty much heard good and bad about all pack brands and wouldn't string you up about it( at least most of us wouldn't).

It is an older model Kuiu Icon. (Not an icon pro).

..........., it's amazing how a PROPERLY FITTED high end pack feels..

I would characterize it as a revelation. If you have done as much packing as I back in the day with those crummy frames...then add I'm a big guy out of the normal range of pack fit...the one size fits all adjustable packs weren't cutting it. I've packed heavy meat loads in crummy packs that felt like they were going to drag me down from behind [North Face piece of chit]

...... i laugh inside when someone types.."makes 50lbs feel like 30lbs". err..no. a big awkward sucky load, stays that way. ........ .

Well you can laugh at me then...as thats EXACTLY what my McHale pack does for me....it makes a 70# load feel like its 40# and there is no other way to explain it. Now its a truly custom pack, fits like a glove.......so thats the reason. I had Dan McHale design it specifically to handle meat loads...another reason why it manages the load so well.

I think an avg size guy can get the same effect with a good quality adjustable pack. Like the many other posters that mentioned the importance of fit....I would agree, its crucial.

Packs are something everyone will have a different experience with. I had a first gen Icon and loved it. Packed animals great. Got a Kifaru and it beat me up. Wished I kept the Icon. I later got the newest Kifaru and it has been good. However, heavy is heavy and it sucks no matter how its attached to your back.
