Well I'd like to say that I hunted "X" amount of days in a row before I killed a buck but that wasn't the case this year. I blew my hunt-cation days on elk this year so I had very limited time for whitetail. However, there is always such a thing as right time right place. To make a long story short, I set up a stand close to our house for my wife and I had gotten out of work a little early due to rain. I figured why not sit the evening but didn't expect to see anything. I sat in the rain for about an hour before I turned around and saw this buck. No story really after that, 40 yard shot... he went about 30 yards - stopped- and fell, just like he read the script, I was just glad I had enough light to take some pictures. I forgot to get my bow in the pics though. Thanks for checking it out. I know he's not huge but he is the second nicest buck I have gotten and a great deer for the area so i was very happy.

I grew up hunting white tails in central PA and I can tell you, that's a damn nice buck! Congratulations. Nothing wrong with good fortune working in your favor every once in awhile. What part of the state are you in?

PMcGee: I can't see your pic too good but congrats all the same. Now I just need your luck with elk! Although I did have a great trip this year.

Nice job putting down a slob on public land, especially in PA, one of the most hammered public lands in the country. The odds were surely against you.

Nice Buck!
You already put your time in on the Idaho hunt, no need to have to sit in the rain more than an hour after that ;)

I never realized how "hammered" our public lands were until I hunted out of state. It really is amazing. It's rumored that the population of hunters on the first day of PA rifle is the 3rd largest standing armed force in the world haha. Some years I believe it. Most of the time I ride my bike a good ways in but as I described -I was pretty close to the road on a ridge, but I don't care how hard the place gets hunted people are reluctant to walk uphill!

No doubt man! After grinding for 8 glorious days in ID this guy was pretty much served up.

It is amazing how many people hunt PA. In rifle season it doesn't matter how far you walk it always looks like a pumpkin patch. After hunting out west I don't get as excited as I did before to hunt PA.

There are just so many hunters. Guys getting lost. Guys shooting and missing. People driving deer. Opening day reminds me of when chief brody in "JAWS" puts a bounty on the killer shark and anyone and everyone with a boat comes out and tries to kill the beast. Then some guy from "just outside philly" comes and kills a deer you have been trying to kill for 2 years with a rusty 30-30 that he borrowed off his cousin Lou. To add insult to injury you have to help them drag it out for the rest of the afternoon because they're not sure where they parked and they are literally about to have heart attacks.

After years of scheming and making an educated plan for PA rifle factoring in escape routes, hunter pressure, roads, bedding areas, and hunter access areas... i finally just do what my dad does and I go back to the first stand i ever hunted out of. I used to get kind of upset...until i started hunting out of state and became "cousin lou" lol.

Nice buck. I have heard a lot about the pressure in PA. There are several guys that come out here to Iowa and hunt the public here. They say it is a world of difference. It reminds me to not get upset when there are more people than I would like to be around hunting the same area.
