Looking for a Gunsmith to remove my factory Tikka Barrel and spin a new one on. I’m sure I could do it myself with a little research and the right tools. But with kid’s sports schedules, work/travel, life in general…I’d rather have someone that’s done it before just handle it.

Appreciate any recommendations in Southwest PA, Eastern or Central OH, or Northern WV.

Thanks in advance!

Assuming you're hoping to drive to the shop based on your post, but if you are willing to ship the barreled action, there's a whole bunch of good choices. If you are going with a pre-fit, you can usually send it to them to be done. Preferred Barrel Blanks charges $150 to do it, I believe. Probably cheaper to ship it than drive it somewhere anyway.

or, maybe there's a member who has a vise and wrenches for Tikka that lives close by and can lend a hand. It really is a simple job if you are getting a pre-fit barrel.

I bought the barrel from hereinaz and had it drop shipped to Kampfield to get chopped, threaded, and a collar.

Called a local smith (will leave the name out) and he said if it needs the shoulder cut for timing and head spacing it’ll be $200. If it spins right on then it’s $75.

Since it’s a factory tikka barrel, what’s the likely hood it just spins right on and doesn’t need any extra work?

Timing the bolt has nothing to do with the barrel. That comment alone would make me look at a different smith.

Almost all of the Tikka jobs you'll see on here are pre-fits on factory actions with no additional work needed.

Buy the tools, do it yourself, sell the tools when you're done. You'll recoup some money and learn something that's priceless in the process.
