PA hunter moving to Boise to chase a dream

Welcome to Idaho, I’m on my second and hopefully last run here. I’ve moved a round a bit for work and the one time I let a moving company handle the household it was a nightmare of delays and broken items. After that I just took the moving expense and did everything myself. From Lincoln NE I drove my truck pulling a U-Haul trailer then flew back picked up a big U-Haul and car dolly. Me and the wife had a slow relaxing trip lol. While my last kid living at home flew ahead of us. If you have the time. 7-8 hour drives a day plan stops uber to local bars and restaurants makes a fun roadtrip.
This is good to know! I may go this route for the piece of mind and saving a few bucks

Be cautious of the people who tell you not to live near downtown. If you are working downtown, living anywhere to the west is going to be the worst commute. Meridian, Nampa, Caldwell, Star, Middleton, etc will be the “wrong way” for a commute. I know people who live in Nampa and Caldwell and commute downtown and it can be over an hour morning/evening commute. If you have the money I would strongly consider living East of the Boise Town Square Mall (East of Cole/Milwaukee/Glenwood/Gary Lane Streets). If you live in SE Boise for example you are looking at more like a 15 minute commute, and you are also out of town on I-84 (to the Snake River) or Highway 21 (to the central mountains) very quickly. Everybody has their preferences though!
Good to know thank u! I have this noted down

You're living the dream! I'm from NEPA and hunt Idaho every other year when I can. If it wasn't for settling down with family I would have moved west. A family friend was stationed in Mountain Home with the Air Force in the late 80's and never called PA home again. He's one of the reasons I started hunting out west over 15 years ago. He's a draftsman working in Boise but like others have said the outlying areas are cheaper and less busy. He is actually looking to rent his home in Nampa since moving in with his mother to help take care of her. If you're looking for a local contact I can get you in touch. He's a single guy that does nothing but hunt, fish, and shoot guns lol.
Gotcha man hey I appreciate it! PM me his contact for sure! These are the type of people i am looking for lol

Agree with this, I like outside the city and commute into Boise for work. Thankfully I work odd enough hours that the commute doesn’t affect me as much as others. If you work a 9-5 prepare for a commute. SE Boise would be a sweet spot for commuting in and out of downtown. Prices are expensive anywhere in the valley pretty much so do with that as you will.
Roger that appreciate it!

I have a couple of friends that work for IPCO. I wanted to work for them and be based out of Brownlee or Oxbow....my wife was not on that wagon.
FWIW, I commute in from Emmett and with the projected growth in the Hwy 16 ,State Street and Chinden corridors, I'd try to avoid the western part of the valley. My wife and I lived downtown when we were first married and it was a lot of fun down there.
10-4 thanks for the info!
