I don’t get the truck tent craze. My brothers in law love them and run around with all this shit hanging off their sequoias. Maybe for an antelope hunt I guess I could see it.

I have been in the same mindset but I am beginning to think I should try one. My last couple of hunts I have been camped at my truck as much or more than out of my backpack while staying on the move looking for game. Setting up a tent is no easier than opening up one of these roof tents. I think many of these will open/close in about 1 minute, 2 max. I have been sleeping in my truck at trail heads or other areas and dont want to leave my tent out as it could easily get stolen. One of these roof tents would be better in my mind. I love to backpack but some areas you just dont need to.

As far as where to go on your return trip to CO? I’d stop by the RMEF HQ in Missoula and if the bison range is open, hit hwy 93 north out of Missoula for about 35 mins. Bison range has tons of cool animals and a lil history along the way.

I have a F250 tremor set up as my overland rig. No tent top as I’m not a fan of those but the rig you have looks nice.

What I really liked is a wirehair dog breeder in Indiana has a Ford 250, double cab. He took out all the passenger seats and put in a refrigerator and a battery and a microwave. He can stretch out and lay back on the passenger side. He built a platform to sleep on. He's got all his stuff in the cab and can take 6 dogs in the bed. He's super mobile and goes bird hunting in the West. The downside is his Ford 250 is not great off road. What he has isn't really overland, but the fridge and battery and taking out the seats are. What he has is for solo hunts with his dogs. Check out ghost point wirehaires, Eric Forester on youtube. He has a pay site for $3 a month that I paid $3 for a month just to see how he modified his truck.
Can you point me to his truck modification videos? Found him on YT but no vids about his pickup. Can't find a membership area either.

I like the concept of over landing rig - but I’d opt for the 4 wheel drive cargo vans and a Diesel engine, That way I could tow the boat two longer distance journeys sleep in the parking lot and still get an early start!

I love mine. I have it low to not hit any wind and not be too heavy. I’ve had it for 3-4 yes and it works great for it’s purpose. I have bivys and a wall tent as well but this thing has been all over hells creation and works great for it’s purpose.

Has saved me a ton on hotels with the kids as well!

That was why I started hesitating about getting into a rig that gets 12-14 MPGs on a good day. All signs point to continued increases which causes me to be concerned with idea of a Tundra. Where I’m at in CO were see 2.94 all over the place.
My lifted tacoma gets 15-17 on a good day..

It’s the kb voodoo rack

I like it because it still fits in the garage and isnt super high.I wanted something below the roofline with some cargo protection . It lets me put a trifold topper on as well

I just throw a tent cot in the back of mine, last thing I want to do is have shit bouncing all around my truck when I'm hunting, that being said I typically haul ass everywhere I go because my truck is built for it..

Actually - your first post prompted me to check national gas prices, and you are right - they are higher than I knew/expected. I drive so little these days (work from home) that I hardly ever seem to buy gas and am out of touch with where it is at!! Was surprised to see several places in the country well over $3.00
This post has aged like fine wine.

Keep things as light as possible and as close to stock as possible, and you will have less problems in the long run

This is an older thread but I’ll add my $.02

If you are considering a rooftop tent, you can build a rack for much cheaper than what the aftermarket ones sell for.
I built one out of stainless superstrut and 2x2” angle. I actually built it to suit my needs, so I got way more for the money.
I made it the same width as my truck bed to take advantage of the extra space.
It now rides on a Pack Mule trailer and resizing it to fit the trailer bed was as simple as can be. 1E23BFAE-EDA3-4B7F-870C-5F14062F808B.jpeg3CC253CB-C2F3-4AC0-A6E2-F725224CF87D.jpeg565CB612-FA2B-4E3A-85C9-768BD88346FF.jpeg
