Over spined or is it me?

Shooting RX-9 ultra 28.5” draw at probably 64-68lbs. Is there a chance I am over spined with a 300 VAP TKO cut to 27”. Was having some weird flight issues so I added some draw weight. Bare shaft still hits slightly right and a few inches high at 30. Fairly good chance my form is now the issue due to weight increase, so I’m still having trouble confirming spine may have played a part.

You’re not over spined in any amount with that set up to not be able to tune it.

Total arrow weight and total weight on front end?

100gr field point standard 50gr outsert 3 hybrid hp on the back don’t have total arrow weight.

ever try taking their horribly made grip off and shooting straight from the riser ?
Was having issues going from my elite to Hoyt then I took that POS off and threw it away . No issues currently .

You’re not over spined enough to cause a tune issue.

Compounds are very different than trad bow. If the bow is in tune you shoot anything stiffer than the minimum required to shoot.

Shop said it is in time. I’m inclined to think it is me. The arrows also seem to be nock left when they hit the target but the impact is right if that helps.

Things I would check if you haven't already done so:
  • Check for vane contact
  • Check nock fit on the string
  • Check cam timing
  • Confirm bareshaft POI with multiple different arrows

Vanes were contacting riser shortening the draw length seemed to alleviate that. Nocks from victory seem to twist the string and there is no up or down movement. Amazon lighted nock bite less and move a hair between nock points. Timing should be good forty yards confirmed bare shaft continues to hit few inches right and high of fletched.

Seems odd to me that shortening DL would fix vane contact. I would make 100% sure there's no vane contact before proceeding.

Bareshaft hitting high and right of fletched shaft indicates that the arrow is leaving the bow flying nock low and left. If you're confident in your cam timing, you can fix the vertical disparity by lowering your rest or raising your nocking point (d-loop). Fix the horizontal by shimming cams to the left or shifting your rest to the right. Below are some handy tuning reference charts.

I never change nocks around, they all fit different and can cause issues.

Like @Mighty Mouse alluded to, check with multiple arrows, 2 or 3 bareshafts compared to fletched.

It sounds like you just need further tuning.

How did you determine your fetching was contacting the riser?

Carbon risers flex, well all risers flex some but especially early carbon had more. They seem to be a lot better now. If shortening the DL changed the amount of flex and relieved contact, then I'd think there's something wrong with the riser. It might have been more of a form related issue.

Back the DW back down so it's more comfortable, start to eliminate a few other variables.

I can see marks from the fletching on the riser. I don’t have any other bare shafts at the moment. I ll give it another try in a few days and see where things are impacting.

I think your spine is correct.

For me, when arrows aren't hitting where they should, I want to blame my equipment but the culprit is usually my form. But that's just me....

You are clearly not properly tuned. Get a paper tuning rig and tune for a bareshaft bullet hole at 20-30 ft. This will ultimately require VERY small movements in the 0.005-0.010" range so get a dial caliper if you don't have a micro adjust rest. I started tuning this way and I have not had to broadhead tune at all shooting out to 60 yards with fixed blades. Put the time in up front and it will payoff.
