How much are we talking? I've only ever bought gravel by the pickup load. I go the gravel place and they dump a little scoop with their loader into my bed. I get like 3/4 ton for maybe $20. It always seems very cheap to me.

Trucking gravel is expensive, $150+ an hour where I am. Gravel itself is freaking cheap.

Branding is what makes most stuff so expensive. If you saw the costs to produce the goods you buy it's crazy how much gets paid to glorified middle men, etc.

If you think buying stuff is expensive, try making it! A lot of my work involves costing and procurement of manufactured goods. The more I learn, the more I am continually shocked at how cheap a lot of stuff is. I dont wish stuff to be more expensive, but I cant complain about prices. Plus, no one is forcing me to buy it.

Required insurance though…

And dont even get me started on the mandatory registration fees $$$$$ I have to pay to the US govt just for the privilege of putting our factory on a list. Again.

What % of that increase is labor?

In MT where I live labor prices have increased an incredible amount in the last 5-6 yrs.

15% silver Brazing rod went from $65/lb in 23' to $365/lb today. I keep increasing my torch charge to cover my cost. Refrigeration equipment has gotten insane. I feel bad for these small restaurants that need to replace compressors, etc. I've had to start taking payments on smaller mom and pop shops.

I only carry Ozark Trail Walmart knives daily now. I lose WAY to many knives to carry anything nicer. They are (D80?) Steel which i guess is overrated good and I run them on a stone when they start to dull and the edge comes back good enough for anything I need to use them for.

I have a nicer Buck folder I carry when I go out and on the weekends.

Watches. Not only were they overpriced to begin with, but covid brought out the stupid kids to the watch market.

Pretty common to spend 10-20k on a luxury watch, with any now costing 25-250k. 5 years ago the 250k watches were 50k from the independent Swiss makers.

Even the big, multi million unit pieces like Rolex have increased in cost by the 10-20 percent per year the last 6 years. It’s stupid.

I agree with insurance. Auto and home insurance is robbery.

Honestly, I’ve learned to just pick what feels right in hand - sometimes the price doesn’t matter if it lasts you 10+ years, but yeah, some things make me raise an eyebrow too.

I lost that one, but that one is the best. I have to grab another one next time I am in there. Ive had some Coast too. Sierra is a great place to find cheap name brand knives.
