I just got back from year two in GMU 65 in Colorado. I had an opportunity to kill a cow on opening morning, but decided to wait it out for a bull. Unfortunately, my hunting partner and I didn't see another elk during our time there.

I am looking for a reputable elk outfitter on private land in Colorado. Not looking to kill a monster, just a decent bull, lodging, and a good time. We are not interested in hunting public land with an outfitter.

If you guys know of anybody you have personally used, or if you run this kind of business drop the name or send a PM.

Thanks!

Depends on the budget...Private land with lots of Bulls is generally 14-22k from what I have seen. Even with that there is no guarantee of a bull.

Sean Zele - High Desert hunting company (https://www.cotrophydeer.com/elk) out of Aguilar hunts on private property. Opportunities on mature bulls. Nothing record book but you will have a good hunt. $7Kish last time I went with him a few yrs ago. One on one hunting. Used him 3 times went 3 for 3.

Seems reasonable… lot of money for bull though… ever looked at NM or Wyo… I think some of the guided private there just tends to hold on average larger bulls than Co. probably harder to get a tag though

Ive hunted twice in NM on private and once on public...both private were complete ripoff....zero hunters got an elk...only 1 had a shot (in rut) ...I'll never go back to that state....what you see on TV or on their websites never matches what you actually get and every "outfitter" ive hunted with has alcohol and drug problems both personally and with their guides.

What kind of research are you doing on these hunts?

I generally search all available reviews and hunting forums for any info on the outfit...ask for past clients I can speak with...look at all their social media/websites or any other information available. The problem is alot of "outfitters" are professional liars and it is impossible to find accurate information. I hunted with a LEO Detective from Texas at one camp that was beyond terrible and even he said he ran every check he could. What I find is that "outfitters" post photos that may or not be animals they have harvested and they know what to say when you call them as they practice their sales pitch...I am talking about camps from 4500 to over 15k...they are all the same. I spoke to a VERY well known outfitter yesterday and he said he had gotten numerous calls with the same hunter stories about being sold one thing then they get there and its nothing even close to what they promise...said it has become more prominent within the past 3-5 years.

Funny how people have different perspectives. Some would pay money to do things that you couldn’t pay other people to do.

Colorado is the best thing that ever happened to Montana and Wyoming! Lol Good luck.
