I know lots of love for the outdoorsmans tripod adapter, but I've seen a couple posts from guys that said they have switched to the Kramer Designs adapter and like it better.

I'd like to hear some pros and cons of each. Whats better about the Kramer? Any downsides?

Anyone try the Kramer and prefer the Outdoorsmans?

I did NOT like the plastic stud with the Outdoorsman. Didn't "feel" right to me with the plastic/metal interface, but that's entirely subjective. I also hear reports of that plastic threaded part breaking off and being very difficult to retrieve if the bino/tripod combo takes a tumble. It didn't help that my stud mysteriously disappeared at some point... I was not a fan of the side to side play in the outdoorsman either, probably just because I wasn't used to it. The KDC is smaller, lighter, holds with a bit more stiffness. I prefer the metal stud, and the locking nut on said stud. I just like the KDC better.

The stud for my outdoorsman is aluminum everything on the adapter is also aluminum no plastic pieces at all. In fact everything I've ever seen from them has been built from machined aluminum.
I've never seen the KDC so I can't give you any comparisons

The new stud is plastic.

Thats so disappointing if this is the case. I just purchased the outdoorsman unit along with a couple of studs imagining I was getting a metal stud. I haven't seen it yet waiting on a tracking number. Why the hell would the cheapen what has worked so well for them ??

That's what mine was, purchased new last fall through Maven. Definitely plastic. Please report whether yours is plastic or metal?

The price didn't change...

Will do, just got a shipping number couple of weeks until it gets here ill let you know. I'll be a little peeved with a plastic stud I think. I believed I was purchasing a metal stud.

I just hung up the phone with outdoorsman in AZ and Ryan said it's always been and will always be machined aluminum.

I just called outdoorsman 18002918065 they said they've never manufactured a plastic one. Maybe maven makes their own, and there was some confusion there

both on my 10's and 15's are aluminum. Outdoorsmans is waaaaaay smarter than that!

Thats great !! I purchased direct from outdoorsman......added a butte 25 pack as well reckon it will be a great bird/fox/afternoon hunt type bag when you dont need/want to take a heap of glassing gear.

Plastic stud ??!!!!!! I would be SUPER PISSED if mine came with a plastic stud. I don't want my $3000 binos taking a roll down the mountains because a plastic stud was used, and it failed while mounted on the tripod. Thanks realunlucky for the correct info directly from Outdoorsman. They have always been a topnotch company, and I was surprised to read that the stud was now plastic. Glad it was cleared up.
307, I think I would be on the phone with Maven to let them know of the failure of their inferior product. It could save someone some heartache and tears when their binos take a fall.

Maven's website says these are genuine Outdoorsmans studs, made of "machined aluminum".

Really cleanly machined aluminum can look like plastic. Tap it on a tooth to easily tell the difference.

I have used the outdoorsman's adapter for a while and it has been pretty solid. I highly doubt they would ever use plastic. The Kramer looks basically like an outdoorsman knock off. The jam nut on the bino's looks super cheesy, but I have no doubt it looks like a solid system.

I have a stud pressed in my 10x 42 el sv. It's aluminum and built like a tank. I own a couple screw in studs for other optics and they are all outdoorsmans and all aluminum.

I really like the outdoorsmans bino adapters. Simple strong and very user friendly.

Never tried the KDC. Probably never will as I am beyond satisfied with outdoorsmans

Yep, I stand corrected. Must have been a coated aluminum. I thought the girl at maven said plastic and I never questioned it. My mistake.

I still definitely prefer the kdc but that does make me less apprehensive about the stud. I'm still ticked that it fell out somewhere.

I expected to like the outdoorsmans more, but I'm happier with the KDC.

I can't see any way for a person to claim that the kdc is a "knockoff" of the outdoorsman though. They're nothing alike in any way.

I have both. OD on my swaro 10x42 SLC and the Kramer on my 8x32 ELs. I like them both and I use them (and the associated binos) very differently, but if You put a gun to my head and I had to choose one I’d pick the Kramer. The KDC is a much smaller stud, and I like the flip up/down lever lock attachment system on the Kramer better than cranking down on the knurled tension knob on the OD, and the KDC bino adaptor is a little lighter. Admittedly, It’s a very slight lead. None of these are “game changers”. Idt you can go wrong either way.

You can’t cheat the mountain

Can the Kramer fit inside a bino harness attached to your binos? I love my outdoorsman stud but the post sticks up too high to squeeze into my harness. Pretty minor but it would make me consider the Kramer

2 5/8" from the middle of the stud to the bottom of the tower. Very close to 3" total height (to the bottom of the adaptor plate). I've never tried to leave it on my binos.
