Outdoorsmans tripods

anyone have any thoughts on the new standard tripod vs the medium tripod?? I was getting ready to order a medium and saw they’re phasing them out. Any help would be appreciated!

One is basically a two section and the other is a three section. Both are about 18” compressed, so the “Standard” just has one more leg section. That “Medium” tripod is a killer deal for American made.

In my opinion, both tripods are really too short for standing use.
The “tall“ would get you a full 60” of height and weigh only 4 oz. more than the “standard”.

I don’t even want it for standing so 2 piece legs sound much easier to deal with honestly

I picked up one of the two section mediums being phased out on a deal. I've had it on a few glassing sessions and love the fact that it is quick and easy setting up since it is two section rather than three. IT is also the most stable tripod I have ever had. It barely fits in the side pocket on my Kifaru Hoodlum, but it does fit!

I ended up getting one before they ran out. 2 sections was a much better setup than 3 in my opinion. I run tripod outside my pack anyways, for quick deployment

been running the original medium for quite some time and love it. not sure who the hair lipped half wit is who thought it would be a good idea to add a third section and make it heavier is, but they should be fired. they took a great tripod and ruined it.

I farted around thinking about buying one and then was a day too late also ... what's say we petition them to bring it back? Like others above, it fits a niche that would also work for me ...

I’m working on modifying a (4) section RRS tripod right now. I plan on removing the bottom two leg sections for backpacking. I just need some time in the garage to fabricate the new “feet” that will fit in the bottom of the second section of the legs. With the bottom two sections removed, the tripod weighs just 3# 4 oz. and stand 43” tall.


You could always buy a “standard” or “tall” outdoorsmans tripod and just remove leg sections for backpacking to save weight. Maybe Outdoorsmans should come up with some accessory feet to use when you remove the leg sections?

It’s really nice to be able to have a tall tripod when you need it.

I got the medium before they sold out but I definitely don’t understand why they would get rid of it. Must have been a lot of complaints about it not being compact enough. I run my tripod outside my pack so it’s not a big deal to me. 2 piece legs are much more simple. But to each his own

I think the reason they discontinued was purely “cost”. Their tripods are machined/manufactured in small batches. They felt the market for the “standard” tripod would be better than trying to continue “medium”? Their stuff is made in a small machine shop.
