Outdoorsmans Pan Head Gen 2 ??

Has anyone played around with one of these yet? I have ordered one last week. I went down the lightweight rabbit hole over the previous two years on my tripod setup and found it's not as stable in mountain conditions as I would like. I will add about a pound-ish to the setup this year and see if it's better in the wind.

Haven't ordered one and probably won't since my Gen 1(and a half ) has been adapted to be able to use ARCA.

Maybe you should include asking Gen 1 users what they think since it's basically the same head with the top adapted to the new clamp, dual plate capable design.

If it’s 100% the same, I wonder why the increase in weight stability?

I will definitely try shooting off of it. I played around with an anvil 30 for my all around tripod head. Great for shooting but drove me crazy for glassing. I know there is nothing perfect for both but maybe this will be good for glass and OK for shooting.

I saw that too and have no idea? Pretty big jump for what appears to be the same main section with only a change up top.

How do you adapt the gen one to the gen 2 style?

The Gen 2 compatibility to accept both the Outdoorsman plate and Arca plate is a nice feature, but it pales in comparison to the ease and smoothness of panning with the Jim White head.

I don't think you can short of adding an ARCA plate piggybacked on top of the OD head. That's what I do.

Other than used can you even buy one anymore? I know they (OD) continued making the gen 2 for awhile but I thought that ended? FWIW I still have an early one I bought straight from Jim that went on one of the original green OD tripods. I prefer my gen 1.5 OD over the JW for whatever reason (which means I forgot exactly why I switched and stayed with the OD).
