OTC trophies?

Any mature animal in an OTC area is a trophy IMO. There are big animals in almost all OTC units. Finding them and killing them takes some serious effort or luck in my case!

I understand the argument that any mature animal is a trophy when taken in an OTC unit but I am not exactly talking about personal standards or accomplishments. How about by p&y or b&c standards?

Imo. elk in otc has been getting bettee year after year.2012 i picked up a bow after 9 yrs snd shot a 307 2/8 6x7. Not the bull i was after. last year i shot a bull if he was matching would have scored 379 4/8. all on otc pubkuc land diy. there are big bulls and bucks everywhere, people need to learn how to hold out if they want to harvest a better than average animal. and in the ling run will only produce more tropht class animals. if uyou want to / need to harvest an animal for meat or to fill your tag, take a cow or management buck or bull for the conservation.

The bull I shot this year on public land in a heavily hunted OTC unit I would consider a trophy in the majority of draw units. I wouldn't think twice about shooting a bull his size if I drew the coveted elkhorns tag this year. Kind of makes it hard to even put in for draws when I can find trophy class bulls in my general unit.

I killed my first bull this past year in a GEN unit in Wyoming. He scored 310". But I'll be honest, the only reason I scored him is because so many people were asking me too. It was an awesome experience, but like many have said, any elk in a OTC or GEN unit is a trophy. Congrats to all the above posts!

I've been very lucky in OTC or "0 points needed" units during the archery season, arrowing several P&Y class bucks over the years. I think knowledge of the area (unit) is crucial to success.....providing you're hunting in units that historically have good genetics.

316" P&Y Idaho bull
37.5" brooks range sheep
34.5" alaska range sheep
28" kodiak brown bear
9" 7 year old Billie

One of theses days I will get lucky and draw a tag!
