Pack your gear, buy a tag, and go hunt…. That’s it. Overthinking it and projecting a bad experience will make one materialize.
The truth is, during archery season thousands of dudes equipped with digital apps like OnX etc., YouTube study, and Google Earth flood every Colorsdo OTC unit - all of your clever strategies and secret spots are already in their plans.
Add in educated heavily pressured elk and you’re just another hunter in the same spots hunters from twenty states will be in. I’ve had big success hunting the same three units that border each other and keep going back to those regardless of the pressure. I learn the busy spots, explore the hard to get to spots, and I observe the animals and hunters there.
NOBODY here is going to tell you where to hunt and that’s what you should want to improve your skills. I know guys that play psychological games with other hunters and even though it’s in bad taste, it’s what they do.
Pack your shit, pick a spot, and go do it. Good luck.
