Origin vs Solus

Hello All,

Now that this Solus has been around for a few I wanted to get some feedback. I have 2 Origin prefit barrels and only one action. I do some NRL Hunter with a 6.5 creed and I hunt with a 7 SAUM. I don’t really have a single gripe about my origin other than needing to notch the feedramp for the longer coals (something that have since started doing I believe). So what say you on these two. I’m going to pick up another action, just don’t know which one?

Thanks

The Solus is pretty heavy but I haven’t used one.

I think @wind gypsy has

I just fingerbanged one for a while at a match that a guy in my squad had. I was very surprised by how slick it ran and how light the bolt lift was for a price point 3 lug/60 degree action. Enough to prove one sample felt nice, it seems they might not all be that way though?

I'd give the lightweight version a try if I stopped ending up with more tikkas some day..

I just ordered a Solus...I used to seen them as low as $650 but I think $725 is where they're going to be priced on sale. The lightweight version is currently only available in Long Action but the last few days a lot has been added to their site so it could be available again soon.

I've only fondled 1 and liked the 60 degree throw, how slick it was compared to my factory actions, and the ability to swap bolt heads (which is also available with the Origin). It's heavy but cannot comment on it vs the Origin.

I have no argument over why I chose Solus over buying an Origin or Tikka and stripping it for basically the same price (possibly lower) except that I got a 6CM barrel from Aero for less than $200 though I probably would have went a bit more niche with a cartridge choice had I ordered a barrel.

I've got a Solus in 6CM with about 150 rounds through it. It runs well and the light, short throw of the bolt makes it fast and smooth to use. Bolt slides well but I haven't had it in any dirt, rain or ice yet. I like it enough there is a second action sitting on my desk at the moment waiting on the remainder of the build to show up.

So… for a hunting rifle what economical barrel would you all choose? Looking at 6 creed or 25 creed. Also, any idea if standard Solus setup would have troubles with srp brass, read there can be issues? Never done a rifle build

If weight wasn’t too much for a particular use I’d get a barreled action from pva with the brux #4 contour.

Got to play with the standard Solus short action yesterday. That sucker was smooth. Wish they’d figure out how to make it about 6oz lighter.
