New to discussion boards or threads. Elk and mule deer rifle hunter from the high desert of Oregon looking for info on spring bear. I have never gone after bear but hoping to draw a spring tag for 2025. I'm in good shape and always love a good pack in and out, if anyone could help me out with some tips on locations and strategies it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I am also looking to go for spring black bear this year. I drew a tag for SW Oregon and have begun using google earth pro in conjunction with OnX to look for recommended terrain (south facing hills, water and berries nearby, ect.) I am also looking for more information and recommendations to increase my chances of sucess.

All the units in NE OR are good. So is the west side, just more limited glassing opportunities. Get a couple turkey tags and go explore anyways if you dont draw, give you a better idea for next year.

Early season isn't as good as good as late season. Bears are hungry. Follow the food and you'll find the bears. I like hunting big breaky country, finger ridges with timber on the north faces and grass on the south faces. Bears like the cover of the timber. They'll break open logs and eat bugs before green up happens. Once the green up happens they'll be out on the ridges and open slopes foraging. If you find a ridge with a bunch of rolled over rocks and holes dug theirs a bear close by.
