Oregon Resident Mule Deer Hunting info

The local populous that uses the ochoco mountain area is the scum of the earth. I’ve never loathed a group of people like I do them. I hunted it for elk archery a few seasons. Cool area but the littering, off-road abuse, and poaching/spotlighting was more than I could handle.

Yeah, disappointing to say the least… the jackass on the atv was retrieving a bull killed by someone in their family, group of like 6 guys walking around with rifles probably all hunting off one tag but they could not find the bull they had already gutted… we found it dead with no tag on it then saw it later hanging in camp. Group was not smart enough to realize a hanging bull elk right outside a travel management area doesn’t make a lot of sense haha, would need some strong fellas to drag it out whole.

If you have family or friends that hunt but don’t have points have them join up as long as the average is 5 or above. Even with the changes you’re likely to draw many units I’d be interested in if you can get that average.

If that isn’t your situation I recommend hitching your application to someone with established experience in an area that’s willing to trade guiding or at least detailed unit information for your points.

No immediate family members hunt, & family/friends that do are not interested in burning their points right now.
Probably gonna be Solo for me.

If so there’s some options..

If money isn’t an issue id go with Taylor Albertson and do se, he hunts hard and knows that country well. I’m going to take my kid on a youth hunt with him this year. I know what to expect so it’s going to be fun.

I’d just pick a unit based off the terrain, a story you heard 10 years ago, a strong hunch a picture you saw in a magazine once, tape a map to the wall and toss a dart etc.
It just doesn’t matter they are all about the same.
When was the last time you have heard of a big buck coming out of Oregon period?

There’s multiple big deer killed in Oregon every year and there’s some units that are consistently putting out 170-190 bucks.

I hunted it for a decade, a pig is a pig no matter how much lipstick you put on it. I’m friends with several local taxidermist who revived multiple native killed heads that were trying to be sold.

I was worse off than you point wise and never had hunted the eastern part of the state. I spun the wheel of the less desired units. I lucky got drawn. Used my skills from when I was stationed in wy and hunted. Had a blast. Hunting out east is just like the west side, a lot of people riding the roads. Get half mile off the road and your odds greatly increase. If you want to pm me, I can give you my very limited knowledge. In my older years and looking at point creep, it was make it happen now or never probably draw. Good luck.
