Any recommendations for the east side?

Anyone have experience with Oregon Backountry Outfitters, but not in Mt Emily or Wenaha. More of a controlled hunt with just a few points. Looking at Minam or Imnaha for a rifle hunt. Open to other suggestions as well.

Feel free to message me if it’s worth keeping private.

Thanks!

I will ask some folks about the outfitter. Looks like you are in Washington. As you know, the winter precip is none existent. I would bet the bow season will be heavily effected by fire closures especially those units you are looking at. Rifle should be fine except for what is scorched....

I know sled springs has success but alot of that huntable land is timber company and they have a reputation of closing and keeping it closed until all fire danger is gone....it is going to be a tough year in Oregon.

Thank you. I’m not looking for this year necessarily. I am in SE Washington and have hunted Oregon archery.

I packed in with Wallowa Mountain Outfitters in the Minam last year for first rifle. If you want a guy that changes the entire plan three days before the hunt, shows up late and hungover, drops you on an airstrip that can be accessed for 1/5th the cost of horseback and is generally unreliable in all aspects, he’s your guy.

Feel free to PM if you’d like more info.

May have to go with an outfitter just to pick up a NR tag for rifle in a lot of units. Not sure how many points you have. If you have the points to draw just go DIY and put the money toward glass and scout.

IMO the main reason to use an outfitter in general type areas is to be able to have access to tags more often. Plenty of elk to be had in OR with a little effort.

Blade outfitters
Blue mountain adventures
Oregon back country outfiting

All these guys do well in that corner of the state from time to time. I think all three would be decent options depending on who drew which outfitter tags.

I’ve never used any of them but know a couple of them.

They might have tags, leftovers are available to outfitters right now
