Ordered Kuiu - not impressed

I ordered several pieces including Tiburon and Kutana pants. The thing I like most is the side zippers and vents. Beyond that, I find few redeeming qualities. First, I ordered Kutana pants in solid and different camo patterns. The material in each pant is different. Not even close. Next, the must cut the pant legs for giants. I am 6’0 tall and I would have to cut off 6 inches of material from the legs - no exageration. I have a 33 inch waist and a 34 inch pants is darn near tight. I could go on with other issues, but will not. What am I missing? I was really expecting more from them.

Just like Danny said Kuiu may not be a fit for you. Doesn't mean their gear is no good. I've tried other high tech brands like Sitka, FL and they were not for me. Sometimes it just takes a little trial and error before you settle on the kit that works for you.

I have never tried KUIU so I am not going to say anything about that company. But, I have been using Sitka for a long time and absolutely love their line. I am 6'1" tall and have a 34 inch pant size. The Sitka Ascent pant in 34T fits be like a glove. They are so comfortable that it is like wearing pajamas.

A lot of other Sitka gear is the same, fit more for the athletic type body. I remember days before Sitka Gear and it was pretty frustrating. The industry did not paint the hunter in a good light when each piece of clothing I tried indicated I was way too skinny. I guess the industry felt I needed to add 6-10 inches of width in order to fit their clothing correctly. And I get they were probably trying to make something that fit everyone... but pretty flawed thinking when the pants feel like a clown suit.

So I would recommend with your body type you give Sitka a try, if you can. But be warned that their products are addictive. I started with the Ascent pant and over the years now only wear Sitka Gear. Please don't ask me how much I have spent on their gear. Please... just don't.

I went through this on my one and only Kuiu order.
Folks say to size up, but there’s no indication of what size to go to. Considering the customer has to pay the return shipping, I said screw it and moved on.
I ordered a 34 waist and could barely get them buttoned. The thighs were crazy tight too.
Ive lost weight since then, but I’m still not going to try them again unless I can try them on in person.
I really like my First Lite pants!

Sizing up means-go up one size. So if you wear 34 waist pants in every everything you own, order 36 waist from Kuiu. It’s frustrating they don’t fix that, but their stuff is top notch.

Haven't tried a ton of Kuiu pants, but their Attack Pants are fantastic. And, they fit me the same as Sitka, Prana, or Kuhl. For me - 32 for everything. Some of the base layers I've tried are definitely snug though.

Loved the Chugach NX series, definitely wasn't tight - a little loose if anything. Current Kenai runs a little big (not small) but the prior was one of my favorite pieces in my hunting kit.

I liked First Lite, but the two pairs of pants I had from them fell apart in a season. Don't have much of their gear right now.

Same issues pants. insanely long, different sizes in different styles, everyone of them needed heming. Tops were even worse, I was everything from a Large to a 2xl. All that with some shitty customer service added , means I have no use for kuiu. Cant say I miss it

I am a fan of Kuiu. Their Yukon jacket is by far my favorite piece of hunting clothing. However, their sizing is a real problem. It's not just that you have to "size up". It's the inconsistency. Different vests and jackets and pants can fit very differently in the same size. With their business model, it seems like that's something that needs to be addressed. I know I have ordered multiple Sitka items that I would have potentially ordered from Kuiu if I didn't have to worry about sizing issues and paying for return shipping.

All I know is I love my KUIU quarter zip peloton fleece and my Chugach rain jacket. Had no issues following their size chart. As a 6'5" skinny guy I'm thrilled to hear their pants are so long.

Kuiu really starts to shine over time and use, it is actually durable which is rare with hunting clothes.

Wow crazy how people have complete opposite experiences with the same brand...
I’m a Kuiu fan. All their gear has been top notch for me. The one minor issue I had they took care of me no questions asked. Their sizing has been consistent for me once I figured out I’m a large and 34 waist in their gear

The length of the pants really was not a problem for me. I don’t mind getting them hemmed, and in some ways that is a good thing. The waste was a “little“ smaller than I expected, but that could have worked too.

My biggest gripe has nothing to do with the fit. I was shocked at how different the material was for the Tiburon solid pants versus the Tiburon camo pants. It was not even close. The solid appeared to be a synthetic blend and the camo appeared to be darn near cotton.

And, the same can be said for the Kutana pants. I noticed certain camo for some items will not be available to until September - which is too late for my hunt. I have to give them the benefit of the doubt and say perhaps Covid 19 has hurt the manufacturing process. There is not way they could have grown to where they are with the products that arrived at my door. I am going to send them back, and will likely try something else next year. No harm no foul.

I'm 6'2" and 176 lbs.
When I got their pants they were way too short. I was 20 lbs. heavier then and their 34" inseam was to the top of an 8" boot!

It's interesting to see the comments. Sounds like the pant sizings have been all over the place. The Peloton I got does fit nice.

I had a similar experience when I emailed about the pants. They just said to try a different size. Literally a one sentence response to a lengthy email explaining my concerns.

Beendare nailed it. What i love about Kuiu pants/shirts is I can get wet, wear them inside my sleeping bag at night for a few minutes and it dries out faster than anything i have ever worn before. And its durable, and its light, and its everything else that 'matters' to me.

I like the quality & features of Kuiu gear as well as the company philosophy but there is room for improvement in sizing consistency. I have experienced base layers fitting roomier than outerwear of the same size and considerably different fit for Zip-T in Merino compared to a synthetic Zip-T (Peloton) of the same size. The "size up", "athletic fit" and "send it back" responses do not address these inconsistency issues. That being said, when you find a Kuiu piece that does works for you it is a beautiful thing to behold so don't give up.

In full disclosure I have more gear from First Lite and about the same amount from Sitka as I do Kuiu and neither of those are perfect either. I consider myself of supporter of all 3 and believe that they would all welcome constructive criticism.

I own a fair amount of KUIU clothes that I’ve bought as early as Canada manufacturing and as recent as last month. Never had any fit issues and I order the same size clothes as I order in any other brand of clothes.
