so i searched gaiters and found that alot of people like the OR crocs and expedition crocs. my question is do the expeditions crocs fit snugly around your boot? i'll be using them with lowa tibet hi's. just that they say they are a more relaxed fit to accommodate plastic boots.

i want a good tight seal around the bottom. also, i bowhunt so are they noisy enough to be a concern? are the crocs available in coyote brown or just the expedition's? given the choice, crocs or expedition crocs?

I have Lowa Tibet (not hi) and they fit pretty snug around the boot. I have regular crocs in black. I've never noticed the noise before but I usually only put them on when hunting in snow. I've been running the same pair since the late 90's and they are still going strong. If you spend a lot of time in high alpine with sharp rocks, talus, etc, maybe the expedition crocs would be a good choice. I think you can get multicam crocs too but I don't think it matters much to the critter you are hunting.

I have the OR Crocs and to answer your questions, yes they fit snugly at the bottom to keep stuff from coming up inside. They are relaxed fit, so they aren't as tight around your leg as others but they stay up just fine when you tighten them at the top. They are loud. I would say this could be a concern, it is for me. I wore the Kuiu gators this year and much preferred them because they are quieter and they are slimmer through the legs and have some stretch to them. Both will get the job done, you just have to be a little more conscious with noise on the ORs.

Another good option is the Core4element gaiters. I don't like them as much as the Kuiu gaiters, but they are good, especially for the price. My buddy wore them all through November and December. They have a stretchy material for the part above your boots . As for sizing, I have the s/m and they fit snugly around my leg all the way up. So if you have large calves or like a looser fit go with the l/xl. I wear a size 11.5 Lowa Tibet. You can get them from Camofire for like $30.

As far as boot fit, the Expeditions are slightly larger, but not huge. My Expeditions fit my non-plastic boots just fine. As far as leg fit, that depends on your calves. Neither my Expeditions nor standard Crocs fit me in a relaxed way. They're both pretty snug on me but I have decent size calves.

As to your question about noise, I think noise is relative. I bowhunt and I think they're just fine, but maybe I tolerate more noise than other guys. And gaiter noise gets talked about a lot, so I do think about it a lot. If I'm busting through grass, brush or alders, everything is loud. Yeah, my OR's will "swoosh" or make noise, but everything on me is making noise grabbing branches and parting grass. But when I'm not in the brush, above the trees or in open country, they're fine unless I knock my legs together. But that could be said of anything...my bow is loud if I bang it against a rock. My rain gear is loud if it buffets in the wind.
