Option 8 Sight

This is my first post here, so thank you for allowing me access to this site. That said
I shoot a Hoyt Nitrum 34, I have both a brand new .010 5 pin Spot Hogg Hunter sight and a .019 7 pin Real Deal also by Spot Hogg. Both are great sights but the .010 I just really do not like for my eyes and will sell it soon (just bought it 2 weeks ago). I really want to go to a Single Pin sight, but Hunting in Nevada, Arizona and Colorado, a Multi pin is the optimal set up. The Option 8 gives me the best of Both worlds in my opinion. I've never held or seen one of these sights in person and with the price tag of these Bad Boys, I would like some real honest no BS opinions Please.... I'm thinking 4 Fixed Pins and the Movable Pin. Do any of you shoot this sight in this configuration and if so, Pros and Cons Please. Thank You all in advance

The first question is how far do you want to shoot with it? The answer to that will determine the housing then it's just a matter of how many and what color pins you want. I shoot an Option 6 but I ordered mine using the 8 pin housing so I can practice way out there at the range. If you're just looking to shoot out to 70 or maybe 80 yards max, then you can probably get away with the standard housing. If you want to shoot farther than 80 yards you'll need to get one with the 8 pin (oblong) housing. With that being said mine has been rock solid and offers all the adjustments a guy could ever ask for. The only cons for me are the price and I wish the floating pin was brighter (it doesn't have much fiber attached to it) as I don't live or hunt in a state where sight lights are legal to hunt with. It's not a terrible drawback for me as the other 5 pins are plenty bright and to take a shot on game beyond 60 yards the situation would have to be perfect along with excellent light. Does your option sight rattle? Any issues with durability? I was about to pull the trigger on one and then spoke to someone who had theirs rattle and come apart in the first season of use.

I am curious if it is a pervasive issue or a lemon sight.

I am not a bow mechanic so leaning towards a more proven single pin design like the spot Hogg rather than take a chance on something that still has a few kinks in it.

Mine has never rattled or given me any problems. I've put over 1,000 arrows through my bow with it between last May and last September, and it spent it's fair share of time in a saddle scabbard hanging off of my riding mule in September chasing elk in Idaho, still no problems. I can't say if it's a major problem or not as I don't have any of my friends near me that shoot with an Option site, so I'm just a single sample case.

Thank You for the reply. I'm new to the site so I don't know if mentioning TV Shows or Hosts of them are allowed, but one show I watch the host swears by the 6 pin in the small housing and he to says 80 is as far as your going with that sight. The ONLY reason I'm thinking the larger 8 pin is we had 2 chances at what I would call a true Nevada Giant last year and one shot would have been at 87 and the other at 92. My 7 pin Real Deal was only sighted for 80 so no way I was going to just guesstimate and possibly injure that Old Guy. I really think I'm going to go with the Larger Housing and 5 pins + the movable. I am going to go with the .019 on all pins though, ONLY thing holding me back is the $500 price tag. I tried a React One Single pin and my bow is too fast for it, it was one of the original React One Sights. I contacted Trophy Ridge which was very helpful on this issue, they even sent me a bracket to fix the issue free of charge, but it still was 3" low after changing it out. Before anyone asks, I did move the peep to try to get that last bit, but it just wasn't right. Hopefully Option Archery will be at the Sportsman's show in Phoenix next month and I can actually see one or possibly shoot one before purchasing it. Thank You again for your input

It'd look something like this except my floating pin is .010.

I don't deal in absolutes but I'd definitely suggest the 8 pin housing for shooting longer distance. Depending on a guys setup and how he likes doing things you could possibly get out to 90 yards with the 2" housing but it'd require a pretty fast bow/arrow combination and the sight sucked in close to the riser to reduce pin gap. As pictured my sight bottoms out at 110 yards. I'm shooting 450gr, 4 fletched with heavy helical arrows out of my Perfexion (337 ibo) set at 28.5" draw, limbs bottomed out at 74lb, and the sight as far away from the riser as I can get it. I've never ran it through a chrono as I know it's fast enough and I enjoy shooting it with setup like it is (can't get bet by the speed bug if you never give it a chance to bite).

One thing you might consider is a 3 pin adjustable sight. I use the CBE Tek Hybrid, but it's likely that an AccuTouch 3 pin will be going on my next bow. I set up the three pins at 20, 30, and 50. The 50 pin is my floater and my tape runs out to 100 yards. With the pins at 20, 30, and 50 I am set up for anything from 10 - 50 yards by gap shooting 40. I practice doing that regularly, and with a reasonably fast bow the gaps are small enough that it's not an issue. For longer shots I simply dial down the sight. Sight tapes were easy to set up. Sights with more pins are troublesome for my lasik-corrected eyes. I see the target very clearly, but the pins tend to bleed together unless I am using a verifier peep. Those, unfortunately aren't yet legal for hunting use in AK. So the fewer the pins the better for me.

Can anyone with a regular housing give me an estimate on distance? It would be much appreciated - I have a Hoyt Defiant Turbo (350IBO) at 29 inch draw, 70 lbs. I would like my hunting arrow to be at or around 450 grains. I was hoping that would get me to about 90 or 100 yards for practice. I understand a lot of it will have to do with how I set up the site on my bow, peep positioning, and anchor point; but just a general idea would be great!

Thanks again. I like the way that looks, I,m shooting right at 314fps out of my Nirtum 34 29.5dl @ 65# so 100yds with a 407gr arrow should be easy. Well, without the shot guinch easy . I think my FOC is like just short of 14% with my KE 81#. I'm going to go ahead and find out where to order it with only 5 + the floater. I actually like the idea of the .010 floater, no guessing. I see you have the Quivelizer, I'm going to do that as well after the sight. I really appreciate your input.

Try it before you buy it and if you can, try it in the wind, it's not for everyone. The hood is a tight squeeze for 5 fixed blade broadheads and the wind influences it differently when everything is hanging out there like that. If you hunt country where you could carry your bow with an arrow nocked all the time you'll probably like it, if the stuff you hunt is thick enough you could never get away with doing that then a Tight Spot is a better option. I hunt Southern Idaho where it's not very jungly so it works great for me.

Sounds like your setup is similar to my setup from last year. I shot the Nitrum Turbo, 28", but pretty heavy arrows 510 grains. My max with the regular housing was 82 yards.

Strongly recommend going with the .019 pin for the floater.. the movable pin does not get as much light as the fixed, so i would keep it at .019. Its really the only complaint i had using the Option last year.

I need to sell me 3 (2 Spot Hoggs and a Trophy Ridge React 1 single pin) other sights now. Then again, we always need a spare sight, just in case right>>>> Thanks again and have a GREAT DAY

Are you looking to change an existing sight? If so, I'd get a hold of Option Archery to find out. Otherwise on a new sight, yes, we order them with .019 custom setups all the time.

Looks like I saw this a little late it looks like but you did the right thing imo.

I got the 8 pin housing with 3 fixed and a .10 floater last year for my Helium 6. The sight is really nice with all the features of a fixed pin and single pin setups. Only problem I had was mentioned above. The .10 pin is too small. Mine will be switched out for the bigger fiber this spring.
With my setup ( helium 6, 70lb, 29" draw and 428gn arrows) the sight bottoms out at 114 yards. With the 8 pin housing there's a lot of room to get way out there!
