Maybe I’m missing it like I miss the mustard in the fridge lol, but I’ve searched and looked through all the forum categories, and don’t see the existence of a shed hunting subforum!
I’m curious if there’s a reason for this(was there one once upon a time but people couldn’t act right in it?), and if not, would anyone else have an interest in a shed hunting subforum/yearly thread created? I think for a lot of us it’s a favorite spring time activity and who doesn’t love seeing more bone! The HuntWA forum has one(of course it’s Washington only) but it’s always been one of my favorites to watch. What is everyone’s opinions?

As some of you know, I started shed hunting long before it was cool, Picked up my first shed over fifty years ago and since that time have gathered up one of the better collections in the country.
If we can get our schedules lined up @robby denning and I are to do a podcast in the near future on shed hunting. It is likely that what shed hunting was when I started, what it is now and the ethics of shed hunting is to be part of the discussion.

If you think public land mule deer hunters are whiny… wait until shed hunters get their own sub forum!!

I know, because I do both!

How does one go about training a good dog for shed hunting? Thank you
I started mine out by playing fetch with him with just antlers. He didn’t really get it at first then one day it clicked and he started bringing them back on his own. Where I screwed up was not taking all of them and rewarding him. The crappy ones I would throw around and he would bring them back a couple times but almost got mad when I would keep the nicer ones. Should have been consistent. It also helped that I work in the woods so he was out there everyday with me.

Start them from day one, make it fun and reward based. Any day out with your dog is a good day. Close to 40 years looking for them. Odin is fanatical about antlers.
