Opinions on Leupolds

For what it's worth, I've only owned the one scope but my experience mirrors what a lot of what others have said on the forums. I think "Form"is being too nice about them! He says to shoot a 10 round group and then drop it to see what happens. Mine wouldn't make through the first group without wandering off somewhere early on and the one time I did drop it I sent it in for warranty and still no change. But I have no doubt the people who like them are telling the truth, but there's obviously a problem because too many of us don't like them. One of the bucks I shot with it I was semi supported on a tree trunk 50 yards away aiming for a lung shot and I broke his neck just below his head. To be fair I think the bullet deflected off some brush but I could never be sure. Seems like I had to re zero every time I went to the range and a few times while there. For you guys that like them all I can say is I wish I could.

I’m one of the lucky ones who have never had any problem with Leupolds with holding zero & or needed service for the past 30+ years. Granted I haven’t bought a new one for at least 10 years, until a lowly VX-3i last year. Also, I don’t dial while hunting, only when sighting in. I am meticulous when mounting though.

All of my 5 scopes are leupold, also a pair of binos, and rangefinder.
Not a second of trouble from any of them.

If you’re looking for a scope that will dial consistently and repeatedly and always return to zero, Leupold is not the answer. I hear maybe the Mark 5s are better but I can’t comment there. Myself and four buddies used to run Leupolds. Only one is left and probably won’t be much longer after sunday’s shooting session. Two vx-3is, two vx5s and one vx6. Constantly chasing zero around, not dialing up consistently, not returning to zero consistently, losing zero for no apparent reason. After switching to Nightforce all those problems are gone. My Leupold seemed good for a while but then fell apart. Maybe on a light recoil rifle they’ll hold zero better, idk. But don’t try to spin the turret because bad things happen and it’s just an exercise in frustration.

If dialing the only one I would own is a mrk5. I actually have 5 of them... They have all worked as they should. I like them.

Like I said, bought a VX5HD, it’s here, waiting on the Talley mounts. Got some factory rounds and the first set of ladder loads. Hopefully will be on the bench this weekend.

I had a 3.5-10x40 VX3i and thought of it as the last scope I would buy. I just could not get that VX3i to shoot like my VX-2 does - results I knew myself and the gun capable of.

Decided to change the reticle and went for the Custom Shop. Well, let's say that has been closed for a while.

Disappointed w Leupold right now. Sold scope. Will retain the older ones I have.

Did a google - someone said Vortex was US made. NOPE - they sold out after the initial "made in usa" push and brand loyalty being established.
