Opinions for elk Euro Mount

had a blast in Montana this year and was able to harvest a 6x6. Fast forward 5 weeks and a mule deer later and I have a boiled/cleaned elk skull and a bottle of 40 volume peroxide.

Now how to finish it, looking for opinions/examples.
-do I try to glue the nose bone split or leave it? Skull is full dry.
-do I whiten teeth?
-leave teeth un-whitened/natural.
-leave teeth natural and glue in ivories?
-throw ivories in a drawer until I get another one in 6 years lol.

I like to leave the teeth natural color. Either pull them and glue them back after whitening or be very careful brushing on the peroxide. Some skulls I whiten with 40 volume peroxide and others I leave natural. I have always kept the ivories separate but I could see it either way.

So I boiled, cleaned, power washed, etc from mine this year. Went a bit too wild with the powerwashing and cut thru the nose cavity. I wasn’t happy how it turned out so gave the below a try. The reviews were very good but I was actually fairly happy how it turned out. Took maybe an hour of prep to cut the antlers and get them sanded and attached. But it looks clean now.

I’ll note that the euro I was working was of a small 4x4 that I was hanging in my kids room so I could afford to screw up.

I like the idea in the future if I ever want to avoid the hassle of caping out or bringing out a full skull I can just go this route.

I had a pair of earrings made for my daughter out of a pretty set of ivories like yours appear to be. My wife decided she just wanted plain diamond earrings. They are made out of white gold and have diamonds also. The gentlemen that owns Studio Pandora in Missoula Montana does very nice work and will not rip you off. I purchased the grown lab diamonds as they are a wee bit less expensive and are just as nice if not nicer. Maybe your wife would love them instead of them sitting in a container in your gun safe! The elk skull looks nice and I think you are on the right track.

It looks like that skull needs some serious degreasing first if you want it bright white. I can see grease and some blood stains on it. If it doesn’t bother you then whiten away. It takes a lot to whiten the teeth so I wouldn’t worry too much about leaving them in. I prefer to leave the ivories out but it depends on if you plan on having anything made from them.

It does look like it needs more degrease, but maybe not.

I paint with 40% peroxide, wrap in saran wrap and put it in full sun for an hour or so. Then wash off.

It's worked well for me.

I have a cup of ivories. I don't put them back. I've never pulled teeth, just whiten. Most stay dark.

Don’t put the ivories back in, nobody really sees them on the wall. Save those for something else, maybe jewelry or to inlay a woodworking project for your better half.

I wouldn’t worry about a perfectly white skull either. The ones I have look fake and the ones with a little color look real.

I have been trying to come up wit a good way to make a pendant with the ivories and attach to a microfiber lens cleaning cloth for the binos and spotting scope. That way you get to see them every time you are out scouting or hunting.

You can usually alternate whitening and degreasing if it doesn't look right after first peroxide coating.

They look good if you whiten the skull and teeth, then glue back in the ivories those are really nice looking ivories you have. It might take a couple applications but that skull looks to me like it would turn out good. If you use a skull hooker type mount the ivories are visible
