So I have a Tikka t3x lite in 6.5prc the barrel is slow as heck (2700fps) so I wanted to throw on a Proof Barrel.

Instead of buying a new stock I was wondering if anyone has ever opened up the barrel channel on a plastic tikka stock to a sendero profile?

is it feasible? Any tips or advice if you have done it?

Thanks!

That’s a sweet setup, might have to look for one of those. Much more effective than the dremel im sure!

Dremel works fine, just go slow so the plastic stays as cool as possible, finish with a socket with sandpaper wrapper around it to smooth out the roughness and lines from the Dremel. If you throw the action in with the barrel, you can trace around it to know the starting point of your cutting lines.

I like to use these

60 grit sandpaper around a deep well socket.
Smooth it up with 100.
Trim the plastic whiskers with a razor knife.
Razor knife for the nubs in the channel as well.
Spray paint of your choice to finish.

Had good luck on with the socket/sandpaper/long extension technique as well as the dremel. Depends on how much I care and that's normally based on if it's a factory stock or something I had made.

This ^. Plenty of cheap Tikka factory stocks laying around if you need a spare.

Great advice all around. And a lot of thinking outside the box.

I was just going to use a dremel but I may chuck a socket up to the drill with some sand paper and let’r eat. Much more efficient.

I’m thinking I’ll demo it on the plastic stock and then do it again on a wood stock. I’ve always liked the look of carbon/wood combo!

I literally just posted about opening up a savage barrel channel and I see this post. Perfect timing and I’m going forward confidently.
