What are the yellow dots on current forest fires?

Satellite detected heat signatures/fire. They are using the National Fire Situational Awareness data stream that utilizes the MODIS and VIIRS systems.

Those are hotspots. The nice part of this new feature is that you can often see the new hotspots before the perimeter is updated by the NIFC, as that perimeter can sometimes take a day or two to get updated.
